Could someone from Western Digital please get back, what had happened? All my files are in the cloud and now the site seems to be down. This is on Western Digital server’s end issues.
Is anyone else facing this issue? Please continue to raise up your issues if you are facing the same issue.
Your files are not “in the cloud”. Your files are still on your My Cloud device where they always are, it is just the My Cloud remote access service to access your My Cloud device is down.
Yes, there have been a number of other posts in the correct subforum, OS5 My Cloud, about the WD OS5 My Cloud remote access service being down. The reason why you don’t see anything reported about the service being down in this subforum is WD terminated OS3 My Cloud remote access service over a year ago. This subforum discusses the OS3 My Cloud not OS5 My Cloud.
OS3 My Cloud devices, the subject of this subforum, are likely not affected by this cyber attack as OS3 no longer (since April of last year) supports the WD remote access methods of the MyCloud.com web portal and My Cloud mobile apps.
OS5 My Cloud users who are wondering why they cannot access their My Cloud remotely should see the OS5 My Cloud subforum where the issue is being discussed.
One can use alternate methods of remote access (VPN, insecure FTP, etc.) to access their My Cloud devices independent of WD’s methods of My Cloud remote access. In the past WD My Cloud back end system problems that caused remote access outages sometimes have lasted more than a week.
For us here in California it seems to have. been down since Saturday. the website said it would be up by Monday April 3rd however we just checked and its. still down!!! this is affecting a lot of our clients!!!
So may I know when can this be up again or are you able to provide us a solution to this? I believe many are affected because of this and this could make alot of clients loss alot of information and may costs a huge losses!!!
Are you able to setup a link or connect the system to OS 5 or whatever your system? How would I know if mine is OS 5 or OS 3, when now we totally can’t even access the site?
A solution can be done, anything that can be work around? A reputable company like Western Digital should have a back up solution for this? Any possible to “clone” the server files or create some kinds of linkage so that everyone can still access their files. Or any possible to create a mirrored link and therefter transfer to a permanent link ? Something can be done, its just HOW?
Effectively, since saturday we have had problems to access so we took a different approach: getting the data out by pluging it in our computer and changing a NAS provider.
You can see how at How to Teardown Western Digital My Cloud Home NAS Drive - YouTube
WD lack of response is lame.
Good luck!
if you was running OS3 you would only have local access only (OS3 was blocked last year April 2022) and so is OS5 if you are on out of date firmware (if you turned off auto update)
your data is stored on your device Not WD servers , so nothing is lost and if its costing you money that’s you/customer issue for using a free relay service
also these devices on there own is not a backup (opening you up to ransomware)
One will still have local network access to their My Cloud when the WD methods of remote access (OS5 mobile app/mycloud.com web portal) are down or offline. One can setup their own independent methods of remote access to their My Cloud. Methods such as VPN, insecure FTP, GoodSync, or other methods. To properly setup VPN may require some extra skill and knowledge to implement.
Yes, same here. I get “503 Service … Unavailable”. Cannot access my My Cloud Home drive. No access through my local LAN, or via the Internet. Don’t know if I have OS3 or OS5. Don’t know what to do, other than wait patiently for WD to repair their problem. Hope WD manage, so I can continue using this expensive WD NAS product.
My Cloud Home does not use OS3 or OS5. The My Cloud Home is a completely different device than the My Cloud line, the Home uses a completely different operating system than the My Cloud line of devices.
Still down which is EXTREMELY disappointing. It’s bad enough that they had a major security breach, but to STILL be locked out after this length of time is unconscionable! Not. Impressed. At. All!
No. For My Cloud users they can access their My Cloud on the local network (as always) using Windows File Explorer, Mac Finder or a file manager app on their mobile device connected to that same local network.
For My Cloud Home users they should see the My Cloud Home subforum and consult the user manual for their My Cloud Home device to see if it allows local network access.
One would have to extract (shuck) a single bay My Cloud hard drive from it’s enclosure and place it into a SATA to USB adapter or docking station/spare SATA port in order to access it using USB. Further one would need to use Linux or a Linux driver for Windows to access the data partition on that extracted single bay My Cloud hard drive. The My Cloud Home is an entirely different device, see the My Cloud Home subforum.
