Whilst manually updating to OS 5 pages don’t load

Trying to update my My Cloud 3TB box (-10 ver) to OS 5 from 3 (v2.41.121) within the admin desk top. The relevant windows open but are missing most content, all I get are the back and continue buttons and some graphics . I can tell where I am in the sequence by looking on the support pages that show what the page is supposed to look like when fully loaded.

The question is do I risk clicking what would be the continue button to start the v5 firmware update, if it actually works, or will I be starting a flawed process that will leave me unable to use OS 3 or 5?

Edited to add I have tried this using 3 different browsers, all the same result.

What are the steps you are taking to download and install OS5?

My steps are.

  1. Download the update or OS5 (firmware) to my desktop.
  2. Open the Dashboard and select to do a manual install selecting the file I downloaded to my desktop. The update should take place without any problems.

The following WD Knowledge Base Article may (or may not) be relevant to your specific issue when attempting to upgrade from OS3 to OS5.

Or manually update the firmware.

The first link seems to be my issue so will try this thanks.

Actually this is ridiculously complex to retrieve some text to be able to update the firmware/OS. I have managed to enable SSH on the desktop easy enough but the following instructions are totally vague and unclear, but I realise this now requires downloading 3rd party editing apps and going back on a pc to start writing commands in a command prompt window. I remember doing this 15 years ago. WD get a grip, it’s just a storage device with remote access!

I shall attempt to manual update from a downloaded firmware file as suggested previously by @cat0w. Thanks

Yes, this is what I did. Ignore the WD automated update. Just get the firmware file from their website and then go into the dashboard settings and update from your PC.

I can’t believe WD want you to go in and hack the firmware via SSH!

had exact same problem, thanks for the tip… will try the update via download file.
i thought this was supposed to be easy/quick…
