I have media sharing off in the settings and off on the share. My drive continues to grind and flash and wdmcserver is the process taking up the most recourses. Why does it continue to do this?
I’d recommend rebooting the device alongside resetting media sharing features. If this does not address the issue then maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.

I would check your twonky settings, and make sure they are not in conflict.
If all else fails via ssh issue a
“/etc/init.d/wdmcserverd stop”
You can see the log file by typing: “cat /var/log/wdmcserver.log”
You will need to do this every restart if the behaviour persists a restart (whcih I guess it does in your case).
/etc/init.d/wdphotodbmergerd stop
/etc/init.d/wdmcserverd stop
