I’ve been looking into this setup for a bit now, but I’ve been unable to find concrete answers to a few questions that I have.
1: Is this setup as seemless as it claims? I have a huge DVD/BluRay collection that I would love to digitize and put on a several TB Hard Drive and play it to my tv, but what I’m looking for is something that displays the movies/shows to me in a similar format to say Netflix (big tiles with a picture of the movie/show so that my kid can tell what he’s selecting, since he doesn’t read yet).
2: Is there a way for me to setup some sort of parental filter so that my kid doesn’t accidentally turn on say Snatch or GoT while I’m in the other room?
3: This is more of a general digitally streaming question, would it make that much of a difference (quality-wise) if I ripped BluRays or if I simply bought the digital versions of movies to watch? I’d hate to get rid of my BluRay player then find out that the quality that I’ve traded for is noticeably worse.
Basically I want a home movie library that doesn’t take up half my living room, that I can watch even if the internet goes down, that gives my son a similar (if not as insanely easy) ease of use as browsing Netflix, and I’d rather not spend the few hundred dollars this setup will cost me without knowing exactly what I’m getting myself into. I’ve tried youtube videos, but those only show reviews for the player/HD individually without much exposition on them working together. Any help is much appreciated.
I know the WD TV doesn’t come with Netflix, but I have an Xbox 360 and a surface pro tablet that I can connect to my home theater and use the Netflix app on easily.
