I run a Windows 10 PC, a Synology RT2600ac router, and a 3TB WD MyCloud(2013) with a 3TB MyBook safepoint. I use Acronis True image for backup software.
All has run fine for several years. About a month ago, the cloud started to disappear from the network: blue light is on, drive is warm, and the router port light is solid green. It is not available for backups and it is not active on my DS Router app (IOS). The only way I can get it back is to pull the power cord.
I have recently reduced the ip pool on the router, selected a static ip on the cloud from outside the pool and rebooted the cloud. Everything looked fine for about two days when it disappeared again. I see no events which might cause the disconnect.
What happens if you set the IP address pool back to what it was before and let the My Cloud obtain an IP address from the router?
When you set a “static IP” for the My Cloud did you do so within the My Cloud Dashboard > Settings > Network page or did you reserve an IP address within the router’s DHCP server?
You indicated the problems started about a month ago. Did you make any changes to the local network around that time? New router or other hardware? Is the My Cloud directly connected to the router?
Check the notifications icon ( ) in the Dashboard to see if it lists any issues or errors.
As a troubleshooting step one could try putting a network switch between the My Cloud and the router. There are certain routers that have a rare issue with the My Cloud that is solved by using a network switch. See this WD Support link for more information on that specific issue.
After many hours, I have not been able to solve this problem. My setup is pretty useless at the moment. The latest attempt was to try a direct connection between my PC and MyCloud. I had some help but no luck. I’d like to know it the router or the cloud is the problem. I not sure where to go from here. If anyone has suggestions, I’d like to hear them.
Thank you.
One troubleshooting step. Remove the Static IP address assignment in the My Cloud Dashboard > Settings > Network. Then access the router’s administration page and there should be a section where one can assign/reserve an IP address for network devices. Sometimes one may need to know the MAC Address of their My Cloud in order to select it, or manually input it, when reserving an IP address within the router’s administration page.
One may also want to try a 40 second reset if one hasn’t done so already to reset the My Cloud back to default settings.
Edit to add: There is also the following Synology forum discussion on issues with the RT2600AC router where some users are seeing network devices loose their IP address. There are some suggestions in that discussion on router services people turned off that seem to work for their specific issues.
I believe the problem has been solved by an update to the Synology packet Safe Access. My Cloud has been on line for about two weeks without interruption. Great news. Glad I didn’t run out and buy new hardware. Thank you for your help and attention. Your reference to Synology Community got me started in the right direction. Take care.
