Every morning I go to access my new 2TB WD My Cloud it is disconnected from the network. It’s getting REALLY annoying since I work with a bunch of computer illiterates and I have to deal with 10 people calling me every day saying the same things, the drive isn’t connected.
I am so frustrated already.
I’ve looked at every signle thread regarding this issue in this site/forum and there isn’t 1 answer to this issue. The moderator closes out the discussion without providing a real solution.
I’ve tried several suggestions found in this forum but no has worked. I recently set up a static IP hoping that this would fix the issue but still no luck.
My firmware is all up to date, the router, modem, network in general is all new up to date… And honestly it has nothing to do with the network, router settings because it works just it doesn’t run for more then 24 hours without needing to be reset.
I was thinking maybe that was the issue, my wd cloud’s firmware verion? Is there some kind of bug causing the newest version of the firmware to disconnect??
Can someon please, PLEASE help me!
I’d love for there to be a solid solution so someone else doesn’t have to deal with writing out a new message regarding this same issue.
when it disconnects what is the status of the 3 LEDs?
Please specify what the FW version actualy is just to clarify
when it disconnects is it from local and remote access? except for saring the cable there is not much in common between the 2.
when it disconnects can you still ping the IP address?
when you set the static IP did you check the router to be sure it is outside of the DHCP pool?
what are you using to connect to the router? OS and program/app?
any custom settings or programs done with SSH?
the problem could be in the mycloud but just because it runs for awhile and stops it could still be somthing else. I saw an older post where it was either a router setting or bad router, i don’t recall the details

No lights are blinking.

WDMyCloud v04.00.01-623 : Core F/W

Local, when it disconnects it just gives an error message of like the device isn’t available. Don’t know the exact but you probably have an idea of what I mean. I don’t really use the remote access, I’ve used it before it’s just not something that I use often. Sure enough it will disconnect tomorrow morning so I can check it when it does.

The IP address is still availanle just nothing at the address.

Yes

I’m not sure what this means. I have it directly plugged into the router and then I connected it through the WD MyCloud software. Staic IP is set inside of the my cloud dashboard.

No

I reboot it within the app dashboard when I have that option and when I don’t I just simply unplug it for a few seconds and then plug it back in. Some times I won’t have access to the dashboard, but it seems ever since I set the static IP on the drive it’s available when the network drops.
When I reboot the device through the dashboard it normally takes like 4 or 5 mins to go back online. When I reboot it by unplogging it, it usually will take 2-3 minutes to start back up.
Yes, I can access it with Putty.
I’d really like to get a resolution to this issue, I need to purchase another device within the next couple of days. If you take away the fact that the device drops every morning I love it. It’s exetremly quick locally and very easy to use, the only issue is it’s just not very reliable.
Sorry, I forget to ask in my last post; do you have a link to the previous firmware versions?
Are there any specific steps that need to be taken to downgrade the software?
I figure it’s worth a try, I’d be happy with any course of action that will stop the device from dropping. Even if it is compromising some other features addressed in the newer firmware releases. This is primarily being used as a local storage device, it very rarely is accessed from outside of the network. So features like syncing my iphone’s pictures and what not aren’t relevant in this case.

Hi, I’m sorry, I have had this issue since V4 firmware, it is a problem that WD has not yet resolved, many many people are getting this, I believe the firmware is at fault, so WD will need to provide a fix, not forthcoming just yet.
I have had an outstanding issue with this for months and months, either return the unit as not fit for purpose or wait for WD to provide a fix.
same issue here with latest firmware. Any ideas how fast WD can fix that issue? I wouldn’t upgrade my new MyCloud if knew it become unstable so much and would go offline several times a day.
In an attempt to resolve this issue I found a code that can be applied to the drive while on the drive in SSH. I applied it on Friday and it seems as though the drive has stayed connected since the weekend. For anyone who’d like to try this method you’ll just need to follow the steps below.
I’m not sure if this is a lasting solution but I will keep you updated on the drive status.
Also, I was contacted by someone from WD and even though I am glad that they took the time to contact me regarding the issue I would have much prefered that they did so in this thread. There are many others out there with the same issue I am having and I’d like for there to be some sort of fix available for everyone to see. This way the time I wasted wasn’t for nothing.
**Possible Fix
enable SSH in Dashboard Settings > Network
run puTTy, enter the IP for the My Cloud, check SSH, click Open.
accept the security disclaimer. You only see this the first login.
login in as ‘root’ with default pw ‘welc0me’ (that’s a zero).
at command prompt enter ‘crontab -e’
arrow down to first blank line and enter:
* * * * * date >>/DataVolume/shares/Public/date.txt 2>&1
make sure there is a space between the *'s, between the last * and ‘date’, after ‘date’, and before ‘2>&1’.
