Virgin/Bell Canada modem not detecting WD My Cloud

Hello,
I was with Rogers before and my WD My Cloud was working fine, no issues.
Recently I changed my service provider to Virgin Internet provided by Bell Canada and their modem is not detecting WD my cloud connected through ethernet. I have couple of other devices connected via ethernet those are being detected and working fine. Checked on router’s IP as well, shows all others being connected via ethernet but cloud drive.
I have tried rebooting both modem and cloud drive.
Called Bell technical support with no luck.
I still have few days left for Rogers before it gets disconnected, so tried connecting back to Rogers modem and again works fine with that.
Anyone knows how to fix it? It will be highly appreciated.

I am new to this community, hoping that posting topic in correct forum and correct way.
May not have provided enough information so please let me know if more info. is required in order to resolve.

Thank you in advance.

When you plug your wdmycloud into the new virgin router, it’s going to get an ip address that is probably different from what it had on the rogers router. So, if you’re expecting it on the same ip, it won’t be there.

Also, if your computer knows this by name, it has probably cached the name to ip mapping.

The fix could be as simple as rebooting your windows system after the wdmycloud is attached to your new virgin router.

Thank you for your input.
Honestly, I am not concerned about same or different IP.
Just want to access/connect my device with new router, which is through fiber optic cable, not sure if that makes a difference.
I have rebooted router, device and windows pc… but nothing seems to work. Can’t even set up through wdmycloud/setup, coz Virgin/Bell router is not detecting it.
Can name/IP of wdmycloud device be changed? if so then how, want to try that in case it can fix the issue.
I have iptv box, another laptop connected via ethernet with Virgin router and they are working fine.

You can statically assign an ip address on your wdmycloud to fit your new virgin router. I don’t know why it’s not receiving an ip via dhcp like it’s supposed to.

To do that, first you have to figure out what your network address is on your new virgin LAN. Log into your virgin router as admin and have a look at the network configuration, and especially at the dhcp server configuration.

It’ll say something like your router has an ip of 192.168.1.1 and a netmask of 255.255.255.0, and it’ll say you have a range of ip’s that your dhcp server is handing out. Something like 192.168.1.100-150.

Pick an IP outside the dhcp range for your wdmycloud. In my example, that could be 192.168.1.10. (The valid range is from 1-254. 0 and 255 are reserved.) Open a command prompt on your PC and ping that address just to make sure there’s nothing there because we’re going to use it for your wdmycloud.

Take note of the ip address of the router. In my example, 192.168.1.1.

Now reconnect your wdmycloud and your PC to your old rogers router because you know that worked.

Log into the wdmycloud and set the static ip address to what you decided above. You’ll need to set the ip address, the netmask, and the default route. In my example, these are 192.168.1.10, 255.255.255.0, and 192.168.1.1 respectively.

Reconnect your wdmycloud and your PC to your virgin router. You should now be able to communicate with your wdmycloud at the address you chose. In my example that was 192.168.1.10.

Good luck.

! THANK YOU ! @mstargard
This has resolved the issue and I am now able to access my WD My Cloud through Virgin/Bell Canada, like I was able to before through Rogers.

While setting up WD static IP (as mentioned above), there was also DNS Server1 box where it was showing IP same as Rogers router, so I changed that too to Virgin IP (Gateway IP) address, assuming it needs to be as it’s showing Rogers IP, not sure if that makes any difference or had to be changed.

I am mentioning service providers names due to that when I was googling for resolutions I could only find different issues mentioned with other countries service providers like (USA, UK), so thought if someone is looking for Canadian service providers resolution they can refer to this…

!Thank You @mstargard so much !
