I’ve recently changed Internet provider and the new router came preset with address 192.168.1.x, every thing on my network is now happy except My Cloud. Neither the apps on my PC or Mac will locate the device. After a problem with the apps on my Mac I deleted all WD software are tried to re-install but the install program locks up saying no device exists. Using a web browser I can access the device from both Mac & PC. Is there anyway to force the apps to search 192.168.1.x, I’ve looked at the WD plist files but nowt there to help.
It is often a good idea to do a 40 second reset when changing internet providers.

If you changed to AT&T Uverse, see the following WD Support document which lists a number of routers (which may be used by other ISP’s) that are known to have problems with the My Cloud.
Thanks for the replies, I’ve already tried the 40 sec reset and unfortunately I don’t possess a network switch so can’t try that. Looks like I got another very expensive door stop. Why can’t the WD software guys add a routine to allow the user to manually enter the disks IP address when the software search fails? I wonder how far I can fling this brick!
Have you tried connecting the My Cloud direct to your computer’s Ethernet networking port? Once connected you should be able to access the My Cloud Dashboard and set a static IP if needed. However, that won’t solve the problem if the My Cloud has a conflict with the router as indicated in the Knowledgebase article above. One can purchase a network switch for as little as $10 dollars (US), or re-purpose a spare or old router as a network switch.
Hello,
I can see that I am not the only annoyed with a WD My cloud product. Since few days I can’t reach my NAS (tried directly connected with a computer, quick and long resets)
Very dissapointed with WD…
Can you provide more detailed information? Cannot connect how? Using what applications or software? Using what OS (Windows/Mac/Linux)? Have you tried using the My Cloud IP address to access the My Cloud Dashboard? What color is the front LED? Blue or some other color?
Without more details its hard for fellow users (or even the one or two WD support persons who lurk in this subforum) to assist.
I gave some informations you are asking in my initial message. I tried to connect via my router as usual and directly via my computer. The front LED stays orange lit. I used IP adress in my web browser, My Cloud software and my OS browser.

Orange? Do you mean “Red”? If so a red LED on the front of the single bay My Cloud indicates some sort of hardware problem or the Ethernet cable isn’t connected. If you haven’t change the Ethernet cable try using a different cable as a test.
For more information on what the front LED, if red, could indicate see the appropriate link for your My Cloud version.

Have you made any other changes on your local network? Like changing broadband providers or using a new router?
OK getting back to my original post. None of the software on Windows10 can locate my WD Cloud, the Mac installer fails to install as no storage device can be found. My network router was supplied with an address of 192.168.1.255 and all my systems use this with the WD cloud taking 192.168.1.71.
I can access the WD drive using a browser from Windows10, Mac OS10 ans Android yet none of the WD software can locate the drive.
I’ve done a 40 sec reset, I’ve now put the WD cloud on its own network switch, still the same. The WD drive is rapidly becoming a very expensive doorstop! After a failed software search, can the WD programmers please add an option for the user to manually enter the WD drive address.
Now getting very frustrated!
For me, the LED is orange or maybe yellow but not red (see picture).
It’s the same router and the same ISP
When you can access the My Cloud, is it by the My Cloud name or IP address?
Ensure all devices are using the same Workgroup name. On the computers, as a test disable any security or firewall software and then see if the WD software can access the My Cloud.
If you can access the My Cloud Dashboard using the IP address in a web browser or access the My Cloud Shares using Windows File Explorer / Mac Finder, that would seem to indicate some sort of local network problem or a problem on the local computer(s) with resolving the name of the My Cloud.
One doesn’t really need to use the WD software for local access to the My Cloud. One can setup the My Cloud using a web browser by accessing the My Cloud Dashboard. Any number of third party programs can be used to backkup a computer or sync a computer to the My Cloud on the local network.
Thanks for the reply, I’ve checked all computers are using the same workgroup, still can’t run WD sync setup (can’t be bothered with other WD progs) with firewall off.
Can only access WD dashboard by entering IP address into browser, if I enter the WD drive name it just goes on a web search!
Really p’d off as I thought I was paying for the ease of setup, as it is I’ll just map the WD as a network drive and move files handaullically.
Thanks for the help, an expensive lesson learnt: don’t trust WD
Just to remind you: this is a user-to-user forum. Bennor doesn’t work for WD.
I don’t use any WD software, except the mobile apps. And not even those at the moment, pending reassurance that the raft of security bugs have been patched.
For mirror and sync backup, I, like many others, use FreeFileSync.
If you enter the address http://wdmycloud
and it comes back with a web search page that would seem to indicate the local network isn’t properly resolving the My Cloud name.
One thing to check; how is your computer configured to obtain an IP address on the local network?
Does the computer have a static IP address and manually entered DNS names? If manually entered DNS names, what are they? Or is the computer obtaining the IP address and DNS names from the network gateway - your broadband provider’s router?
You don’t need to use WD Sync for local network syncing. You can use third party sync software like Free File Sync (https://www.freefilesync.org/). Its what more than a few users here have migrated too. The main advantage to WD Sync is the ability to remotely sync. Third party sync programs generally would need some configuration on the My Cloud, typically using SSH, to enable remote syncing.
Thanks for the help and especially for the link to freefilesync, that looks an attractive option, I am highly adverse to using remote cloud servers, not trusting the security. So over the weekend I shall play freefilesync, and no it isn’t the free bit that attracts me :0
Many thanks
