Using the harddisk on remote computer goes really slow

Hi

When i acces mit network on remote computer, it goes really slow and I have tried in two now, and same result.

Why is that, and is there any thing i can do?

I have not install the WD software, but can still acces my harddisk from other computers and it should not be necessary to install the program to every computer that i use.

Hope one can help me here, because I have alot of musik i Would like to here on my work.

Thanks

Jondes

what exactly is slow? and how slow?

What is you upload & download speed where the my cloud is located and where you are accessing it from? both rated and tested with somthing like speedtest.net

Indeed, as was suggested, check the bandwidth of the network that the My Cloud’s on.

The speeds you see during a remote connection are going to be constrained by the UPSTREAM speed of the My Cloud network… If you’re used to browsing and downloading at 50 Mbps, but the network where your My Cloud is has only 5 Mbps UPSTREAM speed, then that’s what you’re working with, regardless of the capcity of the remote networks you’re trying.

Thank you both for fast response.

I did the speedtest on my computer at home, and it is connected wireless to my network, does that influence on the test?

The test showed download 8,86 Mbps and upload 0,76 mbps. So it is very slow upload.

Yes, doing the test over Wi-Fi will give you inaccurate results. I would first connect your computer to your router with an Ethernet cable, then turn off your computer’s Wi-Fi (to make sure it’s actually using the Ethernet and not just ingnoring it). Then turn off any programs/apps that could possibly be transmitting/receiving any network data (email, whatever). Then run the speed test. That should give you the most accurate numbers. Personally I like the HTML5 speed test at speedof.me. It’s simple, fast, and (I think) accurate.

the upload speed is probably correct, the download speed gould be higher then the wifi

so at a remote loaction the fastest you could copy a file from the mycloud would be would be 90KBps with 50-60KBps being more realistic

and copy a file to the mycloud would be 1.1MBps with 600-800KBps being more reasonable

both times assume you remote network is faster then 9Mbps upload .8Mbps download

I just tjecked my line and found out that i only have 1 MBbit upload and can only upgrade to 2 MBit line, becaus the net is over the phone cable.

Would 2 MBit be enough to hear musik at work and at the same time could delet fast?

Thank you for fast answers.

not sure what you mean by the 2nd part of “Would 2 MBit be enough to hear musik at work and at the same time could delet fast?”

even the 1Mbps should be plenty for music

When I try to hear musik and change numbers it takes forever and also when just changing numbers. Why can that be, if the upload 0,76 mbps should be enough?

hard to be sure but my guess is that your music player is buffering per song or even downloading the entire song before playing

I used Winamp and mediaplayer, i do not know if the download first, do you know?
