Trouble accessing WD Mycloud remotely

Hi all,

I’ve recently bought the WD Mycloud 2TB and overall I’m really happy with the purchase. My experience has been really positive so far but I have come across one issue. 

When I try and connect to the device remotely from ipad, iphone and my computer I am unable to connect. I get an error message saying “remote access disabled” - 'Access to WD Mycloud has been disabled". 

I have followed all the setup instructions but keep getting this error. The drive is definitely set up for remote access.  My suspicions are that the drive is alseep and not waking up. Could this be the problem? 

If anyone had any suggestions I’d be grateful to hear them.

Are you able to access your WD My Cloud from your mobile devices while under the same local network?

Yes, all devices work perfectly when they are on the same network.

If local access works fine then something is blocking the remote connection. What places do you frequent when you get this error? Are your mobile devices using a data plan or your work’s WiFi connection?

Just updating this. I have resolved this issue. After looking at everything again I noticed that the update had not installed. I had a green tick though it was not up to date. After I installed the update everything worked fine. Thanks for the assistance. 

This is a great product and at a fantastic price. The reviews on amazon were way off on this product. 

I got the same problem and I was not able to solve it until now. Same thing: Works fine when I’m on the local network, but if I’m on mobil data or another network it will not connect to my EX4. Any ideas what or who is blocking the access?

P.S. I’m using the mobile app for iOS on an iPhone 6 and iPhone 5
