Could not remote access wd my cloud

Hi, I’m from Indonesia and I’ve just bought a wd my cloud 2TB. Need help in remote accessing please.

I think my problem has been commonly asked, and I’ve tried solutions in the wd website but it didn’t work. The wd my cloud could only be accessed when all my computers and mobiles are connected in the same wifi network in my home. When I try to connect mycloud with my iphone on my 3G network, I always get message “WDMyCloud is not accessible. Local documents are available”

Notes of my settings if necessary:

  1. The iphone can access mycloud if connected in the same network.

  2. Still brand new, running firmware v03.03.02-165

3. In the cloud access tab, the cloud access status is this:

Cloud Access Status

Connection Status Connected

Port forwarding connection established.

and my phone is registered in the devices.

  1. In the settings tab, Remote Settings already set to ON. Cloud Access Connection Options is set to AUTO

  2. Network Services is set to DHCP

  3. I’ve tested “sending notification email” and it worked. A test email was sent to my email.

And for my router, i used Linksys e2500, with uPnP enabled.

Perhaps I’m missing something? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

did you enable remote access for the user? and follow the instructions in the email to create an account at WD?

as a seperate issue I suggest setting a static IP although it is not the issue here.

Yes, I did reply to their email that says like:

"Dear Western Digital Customer,

Welcome to WD My Cloud!  To activate your account we need you to verify your email address.  Click here to activate your account now.

If you need help, please visit our support site. If the provided link does not display your account information, copy and paste the following URL into your browser:

and gibberish url link."

I’ve registered my email and setup my password.

did you try generating the 1 time code for the device and entering it in the device

Yes i did try that.

I’ve tried deleted my iphone from my list of cloud access devices and then clicked ‘generate code’. After that I ran my cloud app in my iphone on my 3G and tried manually add the drive through the code generated.

It also didn’t work, I still get the same devices offline message. Without leaving the app, when i turned on my wifi and refresh the app, it then magically showed.

When you go to Wd2go.com with a browser on a remote computer, can you:

  • login onto the website using your remote access user name and password,

  • see your device

  • see the shares?

Yes, i did that. Used dolphin browser in my iphone set to as desktop mode to go to wd2go.com

Login and password is fine, i could see my harddisk, but when i clicked on the harddisik, it said ‘operation timed out’

An upgrade to situation, i’ve updated my firmware to 4 (latest)

The behavior is indicating it is not a problem on the wdservers, but on your local configuration. I would:

  • make sure the device has a fixed IP address on your home network. Easier to set this up from the router UI ratther than from the NAS UI (where it is easy to screw up)

  • do a system only restore, after your upgrade.

Assigning static ip address? Is it like this?

I go inside my router gui, address 192.168.1.1

In my router config, the dhcp server is assigned to 192.168.1.100 to 149 (max 50 clients)

I clicked on dhcp reservation and add my device (named WDMYCLOUD) and assigned it to 192.168.1.200

and rebooted the router and wd my cloud. I’ve sent test email and i received it.

Yet I’m still having the same problem, when my iphone is not in the same network, I still get the message “devices offline”

I am having the exact same problem, when on the same network the WD My Cloud App works well, remotely I get a error “Device Offiline - WDMYCloud is not accessable, Local documebts are available”

Its very annoying, the white brick aka WDMYcloud is no longer a cloud…

Hi,

can you disable the Cloud access from WebUI, wait 20sec and enable it and check the remote access again?

Yes, in the Settings tab, i turned off cloud access, waited like 5 minutes and turned it back on.

Waited till i get message “port forwarding connection established” popped

Still doesn’t work for me.

Hmm,

i don’t have UPNP enabled on my router, so i think a relay connection will be established in my case. Maybe you can disable UPNP on your router for a test.

If i connect to the MyCloud with SSH and type the command  ifconfig   i can see that a openvpn tunnel was established if Cloud access was enabled.

_ tun0       Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00_
               inet addr:10.8.186.192 P-t-P:10.8.0.1 Mask:255.255.255.255

              collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
               RX bytes:49140 (47.9 KiB) TX bytes:51393 (50.1 KiB)

I think this is the VPN connection to the WD-Server. The 10.8.186.192 is the local interface IP address and 10.8.0.1 is the remote IP address. If the connection is up and running, the 10.8.0.1 is pingable. Can you check if you have such a _ tun0   interface?_

Hope you understand my bad english

Very new and probably don’t really understand networking.

Could you tell me how to type in command and do SSH? I enabled SSH in MyCloud web gui, but I don’t know how to proceed

Yes, everything looks fine from a set up perspective. Here what I did to solve some of these issues in the past:

  • remove the device from wd2go.com, and from any app where it was accessed (iPhone, Android, WD Desktop App, etc.)

  • reboot the NAS

  • create a new user with access right to at least one share

  • enable remote access for that user and register on wd2go.com

  • create a one time access code for the time, and use it for this new user to access the NAS on each app

If that fails, I would do a system only restore and try again. If that failed, I think the only option is a full system restore (that deletes your content, so make sure you back it up).

There might be easier solutions using SSH and Linux commands, looking at and editing config files, etc., but I am not competent enough there…

I turned off upnp in my router and tried the command line, I get this:

tun0      Link encap:UNSPEC          HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
              inet addr:10.8.55.225         P-t-P:10.8.0.1         Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
              RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
              TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
              collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
              RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)    TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)

I managed to ping 10.8.0.1 too

ok, it seems that the connection was established, but no traffic will be routed through the tunnel.

can you type ping 10.8.0.1 and after this ifconfig again and give the results?

I don’t know what I did, I believe it’s just turn off uPnP in my router and register myself for the wdc account. the frist user (by default is wdc or the one with the green check mark)

I can now connect the nas with my iphone in 3G network. Soo happy.

Thanks all for the advices

I had exactly the same broblem and i tried to turn off UPNP and now i can see MyCloud on my iphone.

Thank’s a lot.
