I would like to know what is the best external HDD to use for safepoint backup option. Also can you restore from the safe point if the WD My cloud crashed and loses the data
Any external USB hard drive can be used as a Safepoint backup provided it has enough storage space to contain the Safepoint backup.
You can restore the Safepoint so long as you can access the WD My Cloud Dashboard with your web browser, then use the Safepoint option to restore the data.
If you haven’t done so already it is advisable to read the WD My Cloud User Manual (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/?id=439&type=25) which explains how to use the Safepoint option, both backup and restore.
Hi as the safepoint is stored unencrypted you can restore the files manually after setting up the MyCloud with shares & users as a last resort if safepoint refuses to play nicely
