I have a My Book Live running with Firmware 02.43.10-048
Is there any way to create a safe point from that MBL onto a new My Cloud with firmware 2.21.126? Because I just bought that new My Cloud and it’s looking to me like I’m out of luck, and I’ll just have to buy an older MBL to create a safe point.
This response will be of no use at all, but I need to give it. I, too, have those levels of firmware, and initially got an error when trying to create a MyBookLive safepoint on a MyCloud device. I gave up. I’m sorry that I don’t remember what the specific error was, but it sounded pretty terminal - like the target device didn’t support the function or something equally bad.
Then I tried again (after a pause of several months) last week and it worked with no problem. I have no idea what the problem was nor what the solution was. I know I had rebooted both devices shortly before the successful safepoint. Maybe you should try that.
Worked! I rebooted both devices and the MBL recognized the My Cloud. Safe point is in progress. Thanks a bunch. You know more than the WD people - they told me it couldn’t be done.
It’s worth noting the “Safepoint” and “Backup” options are different functions that changed in My Cloud revisions. The older Safepoint can target a WD My Cloud, but the newer “Backup” option can not.
It’s possible they misinterpreted the terms “Backup” and “Safepoint”.
