Safepoint to other disks WD My Cloud impossible to create with new software

Hi from Paris,
I have updated with new release of WD software.
Safepoints are possible to Usb devices, distant WD My Cloud or Cloud.
But possibility to create a safepoint to another WD My Cloud disk in the same local network seems now to be impossible: no way to search and display other WD My Cloud as we had on previous versions.
But recovery is possible…
Thank you for your help.

Hello,

After the update, have you perform a reset on the unit? If not, please try that as this might help the new firmware to clear previous information.

Hi from Paris,
I have been further in analysis.
My 2TG WD Mycloud have still possibility to create a safepoint to another 2TG WD MyCloud in the same local network (I use 5 “master” disks and 5 for backup, mainly of my video as I am almost a professionnal reporter).
I purchased 2 new disks and choose 3TG disks to enlarge my storage capacity.
But these 3T WD Mycloud does’nt allow to create a safepoint to another WD Mycloud on same local network: only USB, distance or Cloud are possible.
How I can create a safepoint (automatic backup, as I did with 2T WDMycloud) of my 3TWD My Cloud to the other one in my same local network, that is the question?
Thanks for your help.
Bernard

The differences are your older My Clouds are probably Gen 1 versions and the new My Clouds are Gen 2. They run different OS’es (Gen1: runs Debian Wheezy and the Gen2: run Busybox) and are not compatible. Gen1 have “Safepoints” and I believe Gen2: are called “Backups”. A good customer question to ask is “Why” wouldn’t WD make sure their My Clouds are not compatible with each other? Especially with something as important as unit backup to another device.
