Problem with My Cloud and LG smart tv

Hello everyone. I have a small problem with a My Cloud hard drive (OS 5.30.103) and a LG smart TV. The shared folders are correctly seen everywhere (iPhone, local access, web), except from my LG smart TV. The device is correctly indicated on the TV, but when I go inside the folders the only warning is “no contents shared!”. How can I solve it? Thank you very much!

Is the LG Smart TV trying to access the (DLNA) media server on the My Cloud? If so you will need to add/enable the Twonky Media Server under the My Cloud Dashboard > Apps section. And enable media on each of the shares containing the media.

Perfect, now it works!

The strange thing is that on the newest lg tv that I have I can see both the photos and the videos (complete library), on another lg tv there are only the photos, on yet another only “no contents shared!” appears. Could it be that older TVs (all connected via cable to the router) take longer to load the entire library (about 50gb)?

Your LG Smart TV likely requires DLNA media server access to view shared content. Try these steps:

  1. Enable DLNA in My Cloud – Go to Settings > Media > DLNA and ensure it’s turned on.
  2. Rescan/Rebuild Database – In Settings > Media, trigger a rescan or rebuild of the DLNA database.
  3. Check File Formats – Ensure your media files are in a format supported by LG TVs.
  4. Restart Devices – Restart both the My Cloud and your LG TV.
  5. Network Issues – Ensure both devices are on the same network and subnet.

If issues persist, try accessing the My Cloud from another DLNA-compatible device to confirm if the problem is TV-specific.

How “old” are they? What app(s) are you using to view the pics/videos? Perhaps the apps are old enough to not support the codecs needed.

My LG “smart” TV is from 2011. LG stopped support on it a long time ago. The few apps remaining on it don’t really work. I am unable to stream/display pretty much anything from my EX4.

I ended up adding a Firestick and have VLC as my primary app. Works fine.

I also have a couple of old Samsung TVs although much newer than my LG. Same issue. Same solution.

Check the specifications for the other (older) TV’s to see what their network media streaming feature support is. They may only support certain file formats or only support pictures and not video.

If using Twonky one should also see the Twonky Settings page (http://IP_ADDDRESS:9000/webconfig) to ensure the proper or similar media receiver device is listed in the device list. Sometimes Twonky selects the wrong receiver device which may potentially cause issues.

Thanks everyone, I solved it by unplugging the TV from the electrical outlet and plugging it back in after a few minutes.
