My ‘MyCloudPR4100’ keeps telling me that “plexmediaserver app has update available. Please update.” when indeed the app is up to date. Has anyone experienced this and is there a way for MyCloudPR4100 to properly recognized whether or not an update is available?
Where dit you check? In plex or at the web UI (dashboard) of WD?
I compared the version indicated in WD dashboard (version: 1563790 ) with
- My plex server
Settings > General page: Version 1.5.6.3790 (Up to date)
- going directly to the Plex Server downloads (Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More): Plex Media Server for Western Digital 1.5.6.3790-4613ce077 (May 9, 2017)
And you cannot update in dashboard > apps?
Ive just updated few days ago, even though my plex server said it was “up to date”. Ive updated trough apps in dashboard.

Got it. Thank you. When I first installed Plex Media Server onto my WD PR4100, the only way I had found to install updates (for Plex), was to first download the available update (via Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More), save the *.bin file somewhere on my network, then use the “Install an app manually” link from my WD Installed Apps page. With this procedure, the only version available is the one I have (Version 1.5.6.3790) BECAUSE I have not upgraded/subscribed to Plex Premium.
The version you have is technically released, and only available, to PlexPass users (and to all SHIELD users), and NOT to everyone (like my current version is); as indicated in the release notes (Plex Media Server - Announcements - Plex Forum).
When you mentioned that you were able to update in your dashboard>apps, I went into mine and did notice the warning “1 Updates Available” on the upper right corner. You have to be careful to NOT click/select “Plex Media Server” under the list of “Installed Apps” on the left hand side though.

Good that it worked out! I dont have plexpas. But this way was what i tried to tell you
This article helped. I also installed plexserver latest version a few times, until I saw this update within admin module.
My recommendation to WD is to improve the user experience, perhaps, by allowing to click on the download error which indicates the update is available.
