Permission error accessing files via local access network location

With the support for mapping WD Cloud Home to a drive letter on Windows disappearing, I’ve connected to my WD Cloud Home using a network location and my local access credentials, but when I try to open most files, I get an error saying “It appears you don’t have permission to access this file”. I don’t have this problem when I access the same files via the mapped drive letter.

When I try to change the security settings for the files I can’t access, I get an error message “Failed to enumerate the objects in the container”. When I try to change the ownership of the files, I get an error “Unable to set new owner”.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I’m no expert on this and I had some similar experience.
I found that to get permissions correct I had to change them in the NAS Share settings for each share. At this point I have just gone ahead and set them to public.
I don’t think your going to be able to change permissions for items on the NAS like you would think if they were on the local drive.
I still need to spend some time working this out as I’m not sure I like the public option. I don’t have any worries as for the local network and I’m the only user but I do intend to setup remote access and I sure as heck don’t want anything PUBLIC if access is gained illegaly.

Thanks for your reply. I can’t find anywhere in My Cloud Home where I can set permissions for shares.

Me too.

New firmware fixed it, but my device hasn’t been updated with new firmware, so I don’t know if this bug is actually fixed.

Thanks for the heads up. Any idea how to update the firmware on the MyCloud Home?

You can only wait patiently, there is no other way to do it autonomously manual.

It seems that the 9.4.0 firmware did not fix the error that SMB processing files do not have permissions.

You have to reboot the device and then it will check for the firmware update. I did it and now I cannot even get into any folder under the network, arg! Why did we have to use the stupid WD Discovery in the first place, i never had any issues with prior drives that did not require WD Discovery. shares were a pain to setup using WD Discovery and even more painful trying to undo. Well done WD!

Don’t forget to log out and back in after the firmware update. I think that was my problem.
