With the support for mapping WD Cloud Home to a drive letter on Windows disappearing, I’ve connected to my WD Cloud Home using a network location and my local access credentials, but when I try to open most files, I get an error saying “It appears you don’t have permission to access this file”. I don’t have this problem when I access the same files via the mapped drive letter.
When I try to change the security settings for the files I can’t access, I get an error message “Failed to enumerate the objects in the container”. When I try to change the ownership of the files, I get an error “Unable to set new owner”.
I’m no expert on this and I had some similar experience.
I found that to get permissions correct I had to change them in the NAS Share settings for each share. At this point I have just gone ahead and set them to public.
I don’t think your going to be able to change permissions for items on the NAS like you would think if they were on the local drive.
I still need to spend some time working this out as I’m not sure I like the public option. I don’t have any worries as for the local network and I’m the only user but I do intend to setup remote access and I sure as heck don’t want anything PUBLIC if access is gained illegaly.
You have to reboot the device and then it will check for the firmware update. I did it and now I cannot even get into any folder under the network, arg! Why did we have to use the stupid WD Discovery in the first place, i never had any issues with prior drives that did not require WD Discovery. shares were a pain to setup using WD Discovery and even more painful trying to undo. Well done WD!
Don’t forget to log out and back in after the firmware update. I think that was my problem.
