Os3 mycloud

Can anyone tell me how to get my files off of my old Mycloud unit? I didn’t download back when they said to do it and now I need some files that are on it. I tried connecting it directly to my laptop and it sees the drive but I can’t get to any files.

Do you have a My Cloud? Or a My Cloud Home? They are not the same device. The My Cloud is a network attached storage device not an external USB hard drive. If you want to connect it directly to your computer you must use an Ethernet cable and your computer needs a Ethernet/RJ45 networking port. Otherwise just connect your My Cloud to the local network router/gateway and access the My Cloud on the local network. One may need to perform a 4 second or a 40 second reset if one hasn’t accessed the My Cloud in a long time or if one has forgotten their My Cloud administrator name and password used to access the My Cloud Dashboard.

@Edraz
Is this what you own?

How did you have it connected when you were using it?

I left mine connected to my router. Using the Dashboard, I turned off internet access. I gave my device a static/reserved address.

What OS do you have, Windows or Apple? Have you tried \\WDMYCLOUD when you want to connect to your device?

I have Windows 11 Pro with all updates.

Hi. Yes. The picture is the one I own. I had it connected to my router. I didn’t do anything when they sent out the warnings about it being canceled. I always figured I could just hook it up as a stand alone external drive and use it that way. I have windows 10.

It’s not an external hard drive. You cannot use the My Cloud USB port to connect to a USB port on your computer. One can directly connect the two together using an Ethernet cable.

If the My Cloud is connected to the same local network router that your Windows 10 PC is connected to and is operating properly (front LED is blue), you should be able to see the My Cloud listed in the network neighborhood of Windows File Explorer. Just make sure you have your Windows 10 Network Profile configured to Private, that you have SMB1.0 enabled within Windows 10, that file and print sharing is enabled in Windows, and your My Cloud and Windows PC both have the same workgroup name (typically “workgroup”).

One can “map” My Cloud Shares to make access easier.

My LED light is not blue. It is a whitish yellow color. After awhile it goes out.

Can you access the My Cloud Dashboard? This assumes the device is connected to the local network router/gateway. if you don’t know how to access the My Cloud Dashboard see the link in my prior post that explains how to access the Dashboard. Various WD Knowledge Base articles on what the front LED color(s) mean.

I don’t see that I answered one of the questions and I have a MyCloud, not mMycloud home.

The only thing “broken” are the Web & phone apps. Direct access to the drives via windows explorer (or mapped drives) is unchanged and unaffected. My various WD Nasunits are running OS/3.

The only issue is that OS/3 has not had security updates for a long time. . . .so you don’t want to leave the device exposed to the internet.

I kept trying to access the drive. I was finally able to get to the Dashboard. I don’t see how to access files from the drive. However, now there are no lights lit on the unit.

If you can access the My Cloud Dashboard, what firmware version does it indicate? V4.x, v2.x or v5.x? Does the My Cloud Dashboard Alert/Notification icon (mycloudnotificationicon) indicate any issues? Does the Diagnosis field on the General page indicate an issue?

You access the files on the drive using Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder. If you cannot access the My Cloud by it’s name, try using it’s IP address instead.

Some users have experienced the blue color on the front LED burning out. They’ve fixed the issue by using SSH to modify the firmware code to change the blue to another color (for example green).

Bennor, I would just like to thank you for helping me out with my MyCloud issue. Through your advice and some poking I seem to have gotten into my unit through my laptop. Again, thank you for your help. And others who may have chimed in. I’m not real good at these platforms so I’m not sure if I responded to the correct respondents. But thank you all.
