Ive just purchased a 3 Tb My Cloud, and have what may be a dumb question.
For now, I use primarily a desktop PC, and want to use my new My Cloud as a primary system backup device. My desktop has no wireless capabilities, and is connected to my wireless router to access the internet.
I had toyed with the idea of a My Book instead, but, I have 2 laptops and phones, and thought I’d use the wireless backup features at some point. For now, it will be just the desktop. I’m assuming the software will allow me to configure the My Cloud this way, until I add wireless devices.
Is this correct?
I do have a wireless router that the desktop connects to.
Since my initial setup will not be wireless in any way, as to backups, is there any problem with using the My Cloud this way? Is it basically like a My Book, except with wireless capabilities?
If you have not done so, you should read through the My Cloud User Manual (https://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=904). It explains what the My Cloud is, how to connect it to your local network, how to use its various features/options, and how to use Smartware or Time Machine to backup either Windows or Mac computers to the My Cloud.
The My Cloud does not connect wirelessly to the network router. You must connect it using an Ethernet cable to your network router or network switch. Your computer/devices would need either a Ethernet connection to the router or a wireless connection to that router for it to be able to access the My Cloud.
