Hi, my My Cloud just updated to a new firmware, v04.04.00-303. Anyone else see this? The download page says the current firmware is 04.01.04-422 (5/2015).
I have this new firmware too and was looking for more info about it? Trying to resolve my Samsung TV/WDMYCloud issues and found a new firmware has been updated today to WDMYCloud? (I have two cloud devices but only 1 updated?)
Anyone got any info about the new firmware? (apart from looking and responding better than previous firmware - on the webpage at least)

Edited my previous post.
Hit the firmware update now button a second time and then it showed there was an update (first time around it said firmware was up to date (04.01.04-422). Now it indicates there is a firmware update. The release notes for v04.04.00-303: http://support.wdc.com/download/notes/WD_My_Cloud_Firmware_Release_Notes_04.04.00-303.pdf
Firmware Version 04.04.00-303 (9/08/2015)
- Supports My Cloud OS 3 operating software
- Supports WD Sync™ which syncs data across multiple PCs, notebooks and Mac
computers - Supports MyCloud.com – web access portal and Learning Center (replacement for
WD2go.com) - Supports My Cloud Albums app – collect and share photos in one simple place
- Supports My Cloud mobile app with sharing and Automatic Camera Roll Backup
- Supports NAT-PMP on Apple routers for Remote Access
- Minor bug fixes
Thanks! I didn’t even see release notes so this is a big help. I must’ve just hit the upgrade as it was posted but before they updated the pages. I assume they’ll update the sticky up top shortly.
Only thing I’ve noticed so far is the UI page is now a white theme with some more discreet information, breaking out usage amount by pictures, videos etc. The users/share/safepoint pages also appear to have more links to help information.
Got asked to agree to a license agreement post update. And the option “Participate in the Product Improvement Program.” was prechecked. And the Capacity field is no longer populating. Guess I’ll have to figure that out. Edit: Reloading the webpage fixed the capacity not showing (took a few seconds after page finished loading to populate).
New UI (note I only have a 250GB drive in the unit currently):
Updated. More comments. Don’t recall if it was there before but the far right top icon (person icon) will (when clicked) will give the option to Shutdown, Reboot or Logout.
Still cannot set the default Public folder Public Access option to Off. Stupid!
Warning to those who upgrade: The bug workaround to set the Pubic Access option on the Public Share to Off no longer works (at least for me). Uber stupid!!!
There is some kind of sliding in from the right of the content when changing screens in the UI. Would have been nice if they had not bothered with that and left the Pubic share bug in place or given users more control over subfolders.
Looks like the entire Cloud Access section is borked. Cannot enable it (had it off prior to update), cannot “get code” and cannot delete existing or expired cloud device entries. Update: Cloud Access section becomes enabled when “Remote Access” is enabled under Settings. Error still there (Parameter is missing. (400041)) when deleting expired cloud device entry under the Cloud Access section. Stupid.
Twonky version is Version: 7.2.9-6, not seeing anything jumping out as being changed other than a “Online Services” that I don’t recall being there prior. From that page: “These settings provide the ability to link your online services to this Twonky Server. Linking enables you to browse and beam your YouTube™, Facebook®, Flickr, or Picasa Web content via this Twonky Server on the local network. You can also login to Twonky to configure those services and select or change which feeds will be available through Twonky Server.”
Don’t remember if it was there prior but there is an option under Settings → General → Cloud Access called “USB Content Availability” which indicates the following; “Enable or disables remote access of your USB content plugged into this device.” The option can be turned On or Off.
Search feature in the WD My Cloud app for Android seems to no longer work.
Is there a manual download link for this new firmware available anywhere on the WD support website? I only see the 04.01.04-422 (5/2015) download link right now. Also, I’m on the 3.0 firmware, and for some reason when I check for updates in the dashboard is says I am on the latest firmware and that there are not updates. That has to be some kind of bug since it used to constantly bother me telling me to update my firmware to 04.01.04-422
Mine seems confused; there’s a notification of new f/w from Aug 22, but when I click the > arrow beside the firmware version, it tellks me my firmware is up-to-date. It’s 04.01.1-413…
Interesting that you can’t navigate to that release note via the Support page; that’s still showing 'Firmware Release 4.01.04.422 (5/11/2015)’ as the latest, and no sign of the v04.04 release…

Go to the Settings → Firmware page and click the check for upgrade button if its not showing the upgrade already. I had to hit the button a couple of times before it indicated a new version was available.
And yes its stupid the online download doesn’t have this new version yet (but maybe that’s a good thing…
I have two of these units; one of them updated automaticlly last night to v04.04.00-303. It does report 0Kb free so I am guessing there will be another update shortly. Hence why the second is likely reporting it is up to date. No reason to update if it has a bug. Will check back soon.
Western Digital has begun to slowly roll out the latest firmware for our MyCloud product in support of the new My Cloud OS 3 operating system. Once fully rolled out, MyCloud OS3 will support such features as a Software Developer Kit (SDK) enabling enhanced app integration, a more intuitive user interface delivering a rich content-sharing experience, and back-up and sync capabilities that elevate the personal cloud NAS offering while retaining the privacy and control unique to personal cloud devices physically located in the home or office.
WD will have these new features available for customers on the latest code late September of 2015.

For those that updated to OS3.0,was
**(1) **any functionality added where we could set user storage quotas?
IE. User 1/Share 1 has 300gb max
User 2/Share 2 has 200gb max
User 3/Share 3 is unrestricted.
(2) Is it the same procedure to remove
wdmcserverd
wdphotodbmergerd
services that create unessary thumbnails for the mobile app and destroy performance? Do these services still exist?
(3) does the drive still suffer from sleep problems still waking up everyday at 3AM and also randomly throughout the day?
**(4) **any new issues introduced?
If v04.04.00-303 firmware is the actual OS 3 firmware, then most who wanted; more features, capabilities and control, will probably be sorely disappointed. There doesn’t appear to be any way to; set storage quotas, set permissions on subfolders, disable public access on the Public share/folder, better Twonky integration/control, or ways (unless I missed it) to turn off “wdmcserverd” and “wdphotodbmergerd” from the UI. Most of the changes appear to be cosmetic.
I can only hope that WD will do something beyond just prettying up the UI and will be releasing firmware that addresses some (many) of the issues discussed in these forums. I can only hope that v04.04.00-303 firmware isn’t the OS 3 firmware the press release(s) talked about using flowery (and vague/unspecific) marketing language. Because if it is many here with issues, I suspect, will not be happy their issues were not addressed.

They haven’t thus far…

I know. My fear when I read the press release announcing OS 3 was it would be nothing more than a cosmetic change of the my cloud UI and a cosmetic change of the mobile/desktop apps. That’s why I was disappointed and frustrated with the firmware released yesterday/today if that firmware is the actual OS 3 firmware. Mostly seems to be cosmetic changes to the UI.
I followed a link to the wise words of Bruce Schneier the other day, on the threat posed by manufacturers not updating firmware in ‘internet of things’ devices. He hit the causes bang on the head, as usual:

I am breaking my vow of forever WD abstinence by posting this up…
I had wanted to post up last week about how very little had changed between WD Live and WD Cloud.
Doubtfully there will be any major changes between the newly touted OS and what we have now except for the more Cloudy effects (which is the apps and the UI). I hope I am wrong and that they did fix the few things.
However with that said, there is an interesting item of note and that is the API which will allow the hackers (cough) I mean the programmers to create distributable programs which can mean that those in the know can probably kill off cpu consuming programs like the scans during the install or after during the program execution.
Although I don’t know what the program playground would be like, e.g. whether or not we are given root access by the API or whether this is a closed API platform, we shall find out eventually. However if given root access there is then the danger of having an APP that will send or steal information from a user’s Cloud.
Just wanted to say “I told you so…” but since I didn’t, therefore I can’t say that. I just hope that the new cloud app doesn’t force me to upgrade to the latest Cloud OS.
Ok, back to my silent lurking.
My question is: where do we download the Sync software for PC? Not available yet?
