WD My Cloud and WD Photos works fine from within the LAN. They don’t work outside on the WAN. I assume the router’s firewall is blocking access from outside the LAN. How do I change the settings in the router firewall to enable these services to work from outside please? TIA …Greg
You need to enable Remote Access first within the My Cloud Dashboard, then if needed port forward ports 80 and 443 through the router’s firewall. Remote Access and the need for port forwarding is explained in the My Cloud User Manual (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/?id=439&type=25) and there is some explanation in the My Cloud Dashboard embedded Help section.
thank you. For some reason my drive is offline at the moment so will do what you suggest tonight when I get home … Greg
I checked ports 80 and 443 are set to forward and it looks like they are. The image below shows the port forwarding connection is established:
Is there a need to set port forwarding inside the router as well? The following is an image from the router set up but I don’t know what to do with it:
TIA … Greg
Generally when the My Cloud Dashboard indicates a connection is established under Remote Access one typically does not need to configure their router for port forwarding. However, sometimes its best to set port forwarding within the router just in case. Generally its best to refer to the router’s user manual for the directions on how to port forward. If one does an internet search for Netgear N600 port forward they’ll find several guides on how to configure port forwarding within the Netgear N600. Here is one such general guide: http://www.ports3658.com/2012/05/netgear-n600-port-forwarding.html
OK, I’ve used the router manual and had a go, set it like this …
but when I try accessing MyCloud from the WAN I get the message that the drive is offline. Seems there is a variety of things not set right … Greg
On what mobile device OS are you running WD My Cloud and WD Photos apps?
Do you get the same problem if you log into the MyCloud.com web portal?
In rare instances one’s broadband provider may block port 80 (and other ports), in which case you may have to configure the Remote Access for Manual and use alternate ports. For example 9080 and 9443
The mobile device OS is Android 5.0.1 on Samsung Note 4; another user has an HTC Android phone.
I have been able to access the Cloud via My Cloud OS3 End of Service | Western Digital but for some reason, not at the moment! I get the “can’t Connect to MyCloud” screen
