MyCloud vanished in Explorer

After the latest update (v04.01.01-413) I can’t access the drive from explorer ( under network ) from my win 7 and also win 8 laptops. All other access works, dlna, apps, WD Quick view, also drive is showing up as a media drive in explorer

but I can’t explore ALL folders anymore. Strange thing is it works with wd2go.com where I can map a drive in explorer without problems!!! I already resetted all settings included a full restore and a factory restore without succes. I tryed both DHCP and Static IP adresses also without succes. The drive is everywhere except under “Network” where I want to access all files and folders…

I can go back to previous firmware because it worked fine with it but I wanted to ask first if some others have the same issue…

Nothing else has changed in my network, just the new firmware

A network scan gives this:

Het externe apparaat of de externe bron accepteert de verbinding niet
Gedetecteerd
Gedetecteerd
De instellingen van het apparaat of de bron (MyCloud) staan verbindingen via poort De service Bestands- en printerdeling (SMB) niet toe.

which means the device doesn’t allows connections for file and printersharing (SMB)

Is something changed about this in the firmware ??? Am I the only one???

Regards, Wijllie.

I have the same, can;t browse network share anymore since frimware upgrade. Safepont backups not working eitrher. Tried a factory restoes, but still knackered. Mapped drives work ok, but cant map new ones via the WD Discoevry tool. Worked fine beofre 413 firmware upgrade.

I didn’t had mapped drives, someone who installed the latest firmware and had already mapped drives should try to make new ones to confirm it’s a new common problem.

Anyone?

We have passed along this information to WD Support.

Maybe important to pinpoint the problem;

II have several computers in my network and noticed that in Win XP the MyCloud is visible under network shares but not accessable when clicking on it.

In win 7 and Win 8 the Mycloud isn"t visible under network shares…

Again, the MyCloud was accessible on all systems before the firmware opdate…

Same issue. Started after the latest firmware update. I have opened a ticket with WD and so far received one response. Provided them with what they needed and still waiting. I will certainly update as I hear from them.

My situation is that in my 8.1 and 7 machines, I cannot see the drive in the network drop down list. I can see it as a media device and under “storage devices”. If I right click on the drive under “storage devices” and choose open, it opens and I can see the folders and it temporarily shows it under the “network list” as it’s IP address. As soon as I close the folder window, it disappears from the network list. It also used to show at the top witih all the other network shares/locations but it no longer does.

Again, this is all after the latest firmware update.

exact  the same situation as I have

to bypass the situation you can login at wd2go.com and map the share you want in explorer, surprisingly that is the only way to access the shares in explorer

Ok so just a quick update on this. Yesterday around 3PM, the device was back in my network list on all my machines and functioning as normal. Nothing has changed in my environment so I’m not really sure what happened to cause the issue or correct it. WD advised me to complete a flush DNS which I had tried previously to no avail. Maybe a flush would help others in this same situation but can’t be sure.

Good Luck!

this happened to me today, a few days ago I upgraded to the latest FW (v04.01.01-413). when I created a share today everything was fine while the share was public. when I set permissions on the new share I lost all SMB shares. the /etc/samba/overall_share file got truncated, I manually re-created it, I suspect a system only restore would re-create it too.

I tried to create and set permissions on another share to re-produce the issue but it is working fine now.

until there is a resolution I would suggest anyone with any Linux experience to make a backup copy of the overall_share file before adding or altering any shares

Well, Flush DNS didn’t helped as expected because that’s a local thing and I have 3 different computers with XP, WIn7 and Win8.1 who can’t see the MyCloud anymore under network neighboarhood. I got a mail from WD support to tell me that it’s because I should use the same “WORKGROUP”, check my windows network settings and other blablabla. Just great…

I already resetted the factory settings (full) without succes, and the more I use the UI the more errors I get.

Also tryed every combination of settings, dlna off/ all shares public / different network names / router reset etc.

System only restore didn’t had effect either.

Let’s put the bugs toghetter;

1/ No shares or drive more visible in network

2/ Setting a password in the Twonky UI results in a 401 (page not found) error in the MyCloud UI

3/ Changing my user password in the MyCloud UI gives an error but the password is changed (or deleted) anyway,

regardless the error popup.

This is by FAR the buggiest firmware I installed till now, on the other hand also the fastest web UI and uploads are very good now. I only can use the shares by going to www.wd2go.com go figure…

So the only option I have is to go back to previous firmware.

I simply am p****d off because they make things worse and test the firmware not enough before release.

I’m also tired of the support helpdesks from today (not only WD) where you always get a standard answer.

Imagine you car has a bug, you go to the garage and they tell you to try wear some glasses to see if it’s

driving better now. That’s how I fel at the moment…

I’m at the point now to buy a simple external USB3 drive and throw the **bleep** thing from here to Malaysia…

And here is the proof; reinstalled firmware v04.01.00-408 and device is accessible again from network!

(MyCloud is renamed to “WOLK”)

So for now I stay with the old firmware…

I’ve read through this thread because I have the same issue (no shares, folders visible in File Explorer) but I have NOT updated the firmware to xxx13.  I’m still running xxx08.  It’s an intermittent problem.  Sometimes I can see the shares & folders, other time I can not.  Anybody else have this problem using xxx08 version?

It appears to me that if/when I make many changes, like creating new folders, deleting shares, etc., the files disappear from File Explorer for a few days.  I have not used System Only Restore because I don’t want to recreate all the user accounts.

do you have a static IP set? if not then set one outside the routers DHCP pool

in file explorer / finder try entering \IPaddress and see what happens. somtime Windows has issues identifiy network resources, if this is the case the \IPaddress will show your shares and it is not a mycloud issue

sometimes a system only restore is the best option even though it takes awhile
