MyCloud Safepoint backups failing after firmware upgrade

I have a 3TB MyCloud that has been in service since Nov '13. It does weekly safepoint backups to an external 3TB WD Green drive in an adapter via the USB 3.0 port. It worked like clockwork until after the latest firmware update. At the moment I’ve disconnected the external drive as the MyCloud is no longer responding and is in a permanently flashing orange state. I’ve tried disconnecting, rebooting, etc to no avail. Any insight would be appreciated.

Below are the chronology of events. My apologies… there’s lots of repetitive info:

Try doing a 4 second reset or 40 second system restore to see if the My Cloud unresponsiveness clears.

The USB drive Share name being renamed and causing Safpeoint problems is well discussed in this subforum. Including a separate thread posted just hours before yours. The solution is to remove/eject the USB drive from the My Cloud. Then access the Share page within the Dashboard and remove all other Shares that were generated with the USB drive name that have the _x extension. Then reattach the USB drive to the My Cloud and rename the USB Share back to it’s initial name minus the _x extension.
