I have a WD MyCloud device connected to my network. It is the local backup repository for several PCs on my network.
A few days ago the drive ran out of disk space during an overnight backup job. Since then, I have been unable to access the contents of the drive via Windows. The web portal is accessible, but is acting quirky in that some of the content won’t populate (namely the Capacity portion). If I reboot the device, I am able to briefly browse the directory structure but any attempt to delete files (to clear disk space) or read any data from the share results in the volume becoming inaccessible entirely via Windows.
I assume these issues are being caused by the fact that there is 0 disk space available. From what I can tell, it is not possible to connect these devices to a PC via USB. Is there any way to directly access one of these devices to clear some disk space or troubleshoot? Does anyone have any ideas of anything else I can try here?
No you cannot connect a computer to the My Cloud using the My Cloud USB port.
If you have SSH enabled through the My Cloud Dashboard you could access the My Cloud via SSH. Once logged into the My Cloud via SSH one could then search through the data folder and remove files/folders using standard Linux commands.
If one has FTP enabled on the My Cloud they could possibly go through free up space by deleting folders/files.
If one can access the My Cloud using the MyCloud.com web portal they could also possibly remove files/folders to free up space.
There are also the My Cloud Desktop program for Mac/Windows and the My Cloud app for iOS/Android that will allow you to access a My Cloud and possibly remove files/folders to free up space.
Thanks for replying! Unfortunately I have tried both SSH and FTP. Trying to delete anything via SSH results in the SSH session locking up. The desktop program for the PC does connect to the device and display shares but I am unable to browse the shares (unless I reboot the device) and if I am able to browse, any attempt to delete a file or move a file off of the device results in the device locking up.
