My Cloud OS5 NAS - slow blinking front blue light

My WD MyCloud OS5 NAS has gone “off-line” and has a slow blinking blue light on the front.

I’ve tried power cycling (removing & reconnecting the power supply).
I’ve checked the Ethernet connection to my Router (OK).
I’ve tried changing the Ethernet cable between NAS and Router (no effect).

Any suggested fixes before I attempt a “soft-reset” (4 seconds with the power on)?

Thanks

Can you access the My Cloud Dashboard using a web browser?
Can you access the My Cloud using it’s IP address?
Have you checked the router’s administration page to see if the router’s DHCP server indicates the My Cloud has obtained an IP address and is connected to the local network?

Hi Bennor,
Going to sound dumb here (so please be patient) a very long time since I’ve done any under bonnet stuff with this…

  1. Remind me how to access the My Cloud Dashboard via the web browser?
  2. Don’t know my My Cloud’s IP address (how can I find it)?
  3. Broadband & router provided by my employer (work from home) and locked down. Can’t access router’s administration page to check this.

If you gave your device a name when you set it up, you can try these two ways to access it.

\\WDMYCLOUD or using its name \\DeviceName

Try the above and see what happens.

I have Windows 11 and use File Explorer, and my device name is WDMYCLOUDTWO. It has OS5.

Hi cat0w,

using File Explorer and \DeviceName has given me local access to the NAS contents.

Thank you so much!

I can now retrieve my data and back it up somewhere else. Then set about doing a hard reset on the NAS and re-configuring it.

Lesson learned, don’t have all my data held in a single place - make sure it’s backed up in another place!

Thanks again for your help, massively appreciated!

If you can access data, then why would you hard reset MyCloud, you don’t have access to router configuration either?!

I looked at your other topic too and here is a link to the User Manual for the second generation WDMYCLOUD. Check out LEDs.

Manual downloaded and I’ll check out the LEDs.

Steps to Access the Dashboard of a My Cloud OS 5

As indicated one way to find the My Cloud IP address is through the router’s administration page. Most ISP provided routers/gateways will have an administration page that is accessable. Often they put the administration page access information (URL and username/password) on the bottom or back of the router/gateway.

Hi @Nick_Hoskings

Your WD MyCloud NAS shows a slow blinking blue light, check physical connections - power, Ethernet cable, and device condition. Ensure cables are secure and undamaged.

  1. Check physical connections - power, Ethernet cable, and device condition. Ensure cables are secure.
  2. Connect the NAS directly to your computer to isolate network issues. Verify the device is discoverable and getting an IP address.
  3. Back up critical data before soft resetting. Note current network settings.
  4. If a 4-second power button reset fails, contact Western Digital support or consider NAS data recovery solutions.
  1. Ensure that your NAS firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause unexpected issues.
  2. Visit the Western Digital support website to check for any firmware updates available for your model.
  3. If you can access the NAS web interface, reset the network settings to their default values. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
Before the soft reset, you should try to scan and recover data from NAS as first aid.
