My cloud home - cannot connect through Windows 11

Hi, I have a My Cloud Home running on software version 9.6.0-111 that refuses to connect on windows 11

This was working fine with windows 10 (albeit that I have to login every time I reboot the laptop), but due to all the MS messages and alerts, I’ve upgraded (doing a clean install rather than an update) of Windows 11

Now when I view available Network(s) in file explorer, my NAS shows correctly with the Drive / serial number as a Computer, but when I try and access this, Windows returns the following
"[Window Title]
Network Error

[Main Instruction]
Windows cannot access \MYCLOUD-Serial NO.

[Content]
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.

[V] See details [Diagnose] [Cancel]

[Expanded Information]
Error code: 0x80070035
The network path was not found."

I have spent countless hours reading various posts from other users that are having similar / the same issue and have so far

  • ensured I log into windows as an admin
  • ensured my NAS has a static IP (through router settings)
  • ensured I am on the same workgroup
  • activated SMB 1.0/CIFS File sharing support in Windows Features
  • turned NAS off , waited , and turned on
  • rebooted windows
  • disabled firewall
  • switched my wireless network between being Private and Public
  • attempted to Map a Network drive using the IP address
  • checked it is visible through windows PING test from CMD (Which was successful)

But none of the above changes the end result.
I never get as far as the usual prompt for the login / password as it fails before this and displays the above windows message.

I know the NAS is operating correctly outside of Windows, as I can access it from other mobile devices, the TV and through the web browser.

Please there is surely a simple fix for this, but I can not (shouldn’t have to) rely on browser access when everything on WD site still professes the benefits and simplicity of this platform - what am I missing ?!?!?

Welcome to the MCH (My Cloud Home) subforum.

Have you had a chance to use the search feature or browse a few threads below the top where there is one on Windows 11 and possible solutions from that thread?

6. Disable the SMB client signing requirement:

a. On the Start Menu search, type gpedit and start the Edit Group Policy app (i.e. Local Group Policy Editor). If you are using Home edition, skip to step 8.

b. In the console tree, select Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings> Local Policies > Security Options.

c. Double-click Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always).

d. Select Disabled > OK.

Wow, I had the feeling this was related to SMB, but couldn’t for the life of me understand where to begin. Having followed the advice, I have now got access and it connects seamlessly, in that it shows me the primary folders., so Thank you so much for the quick response and clear instructions. However, if I then try and access any of these folders, it now asks for the network credentials. Whatever I enter here fails, so which credentials is it after - Windows logins or the NAS ? I know the password, but have no idea (as its been so long since I needed to enter these) what the user name will be :smiling_face_with_tear:

Please follow the ‘Enable Local Access’ process and set your local password.
The MCH local password is NOT

  1. Windows password
  2. MCH webapp (browser) password, although this password is needed to sign in to enable.

How to Enable Local Network Access to Data on My Cloud Home Using the Dashboard with Cloud Services

For example, you may want to set up your MCH local password as something distinct from 1 or 2 above.

Thank you once again. I am putting it down to fatigue after going round in circles and couldn’t see the blindingly obvious staring me in the face, but your clear instructions now puts me back in the driving seat with full access :grinning:

I have the same problem with a Windows 11 suddenly loosing connection with the My Cloud Home a month or so ago. The Windows 10 and Mac are still in touch with My Cloud Home. Sadly the “Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always)” was already disabled. Any other ideas?

There could be a myriad of other causes that is better answered by Microsoft Windows community forum. There is no simple solution and some remedies may include reinstallation or reset of network or even Windows 11 clean install.

Windows 11 Sudden loss of network computers from Windows Explorer

If you have Windows 11 Home Edition, you won’t have the Group Policy Editor, but you can also disable SMB signing using PowerShell. This worked for me. Here’s how…

Open PowerShell as an administrator.

Run the following commands to disable SMB Signing:

Set-SmbClientConfiguration -RequireSecuritySignature $false
Set-SmbClientConfiguration -EnableSecuritySignature $false

Restart your PC.

I hope this helps.

Please read the very first reply above (Nov 6, 2024) in the posted solution and link where it says “skip to step 8”.

If you are using *Home* edition, skip to step 8.

Windows 11 Pro/Enterprise user here, keep getting stuck at the “Enter Network Password” part.

After accessing the MyCloud network drive, I click on the user folder “brandon” and put in the password that I set at http://192.168.1.254/static/

Not sure where to go from here as I have updated the password and copied and pasted it so that I know it’s correct multiple times.

Turned off all the stuff with the Windows GPEDIT feature as well.

You don’t appear to have a My Cloud Home which is completely different in hardware and software as the other ‘My Cloud’ series and will behave differently as a network device.

Please go up and over to the other series:

The Mycloud Home Duo doesn’t have any firmware updates to OS 5, and this thread is about a MyCloud Home isn’t it?

I have this “MyCloud Home Duo”

Unfortunately nobody knew what device you had when you referred to your network drive as

1.“accessing the MyCloud network drive”
2."set at 'http://…/static

There is no setting of static address on the My Cloud Home, which leaves the reader with the alternative and assumption that you had the other ‘My Cloud’ series.

This also appears to be a Windows 11 network question that goes beyond the basic configuration for the Windows home networking if you are a “Windows 11 Pro/Enterprise user” and had already tried all the suggestions listed in the stated solutions above.

I can only suggest you repeat the enable local access step if you have not done so and reset the password if needed, which no reader knows if you have tried.

My Solution: Boot Ubuntu 24.10 from a USB drive and connect via Samba.

You may have to try and re-mount it multiple times or after doing a large copy, close out and retry opening the network share again.

Was able to get all of my files off this way from an Ubuntu Live CD.

Solution: Boot Ubuntu 24.10 from a USB drive and connect via Samba

This literally has nothing to do with Windows 11.

Fix The specified network password is not correct error
The error can occur for many reasons, but fixing it isn’t as complicated as it may seem. To help you out, here are some quick troubleshooting methods:

  1. Verifying Password Correctness
  2. Ensure The SSDP Discovery Service Is Running
  3. Run Network Troubleshooter of Get Help app
  4. Remove and Re-Add the Share With Its Network Credentials
  5. Update Group Policy for Network Security
  6. Is your Username the same as your PC Name?

Some of these will require a reboot to see effect.
