Hi, I have a My Cloud Home running on software version 9.6.0-111 that refuses to connect on windows 11
This was working fine with windows 10 (albeit that I have to login every time I reboot the laptop), but due to all the MS messages and alerts, I’ve upgraded (doing a clean install rather than an update) of Windows 11
Now when I view available Network(s) in file explorer, my NAS shows correctly with the Drive / serial number as a Computer, but when I try and access this, Windows returns the following
"[Window Title] Network Error
[Main Instruction] Windows cannot access \MYCLOUD-Serial NO.
[Content] Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.
[V] See details [Diagnose] [Cancel]
[Expanded Information] Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found."
I have spent countless hours reading various posts from other users that are having similar / the same issue and have so far
ensured I log into windows as an admin
ensured my NAS has a static IP (through router settings)
ensured I am on the same workgroup
activated SMB 1.0/CIFS File sharing support in Windows Features
turned NAS off , waited , and turned on
rebooted windows
disabled firewall
switched my wireless network between being Private and Public
attempted to Map a Network drive using the IP address
checked it is visible through windows PING test from CMD (Which was successful)
But none of the above changes the end result.
I never get as far as the usual prompt for the login / password as it fails before this and displays the above windows message.
I know the NAS is operating correctly outside of Windows, as I can access it from other mobile devices, the TV and through the web browser.
Please there is surely a simple fix for this, but I can not (shouldn’t have to) rely on browser access when everything on WD site still professes the benefits and simplicity of this platform - what am I missing ?!?!?
Have you had a chance to use the search feature or browse a few threads below the top where there is one on Windows 11 and possible solutions from that thread?
a. On the Start Menu search, type gpedit and start the Edit Group Policy app (i.e. Local Group Policy Editor). If you are using Home edition, skip to step 8.
b. In the console tree, select Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings> Local Policies > Security Options.
c. Double-click Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always).
Wow, I had the feeling this was related to SMB, but couldn’t for the life of me understand where to begin. Having followed the advice, I have now got access and it connects seamlessly, in that it shows me the primary folders., so Thank you so much for the quick response and clear instructions. However, if I then try and access any of these folders, it now asks for the network credentials. Whatever I enter here fails, so which credentials is it after - Windows logins or the NAS ? I know the password, but have no idea (as its been so long since I needed to enter these) what the user name will be
Thank you once again. I am putting it down to fatigue after going round in circles and couldn’t see the blindingly obvious staring me in the face, but your clear instructions now puts me back in the driving seat with full access
I have the same problem with a Windows 11 suddenly loosing connection with the My Cloud Home a month or so ago. The Windows 10 and Mac are still in touch with My Cloud Home. Sadly the “Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always)” was already disabled. Any other ideas?
There could be a myriad of other causes that is better answered by Microsoft Windows community forum. There is no simple solution and some remedies may include reinstallation or reset of network or even Windows 11 clean install.
