Does anyone know how this works? When you click on an Mkv a dialogue box appears saying “install a compatible player in order to view this file” but we already knew this? What has changed? Can external playback be configured into the app? Many people are asking the same question in the review section for this app in the Apple Store.
Was the only change that this message now appears?
iOS devices cannot play MKV files natively, but there are apps that can be added that can play them. When clicked on an MKV, the MC app notifies user to select an app that can play the file and switches you to that app you select. Depending upon how robust the iOS device is and the wireless signal, the videio will either play fine or poorly.
I avoid the whole thing by converting my favorite DVD and BD files to m4v files with Handbrake just for mobile device use. They work great.
Thanks, but the app doesn’t allow you to select an external player. It just prints out the aforementioned message and nothing else. I’ve got VLC and Infuse installed on the device.
