port 21 on my WDmycloud is closed so I cannot connect my Trendnet camera’s ftp port 21 to my wdmycloud’s ftp server. is there a simple tutorial that walks through the port forwarding required?

You need to enable FTP through the My Cloud Dashboard > Settings section first. Then you need to access the router the My Cloud is connected to and enable Port Forwarding of port 21 from the internet to the My Cloud.
Use your favorite internet search engine to find more information on how to enable port forwarding for your router model.
I can’t do that. I’m in Thailand. The MyCloud is in NC.
Then you cannot do what you want to do.
There is no means of remote administration of the MyCloud, and, unless you have enabled remote admin on your router, no means of remotely setting up a firewall rule on your router, either.
Your only option is to have someone you trust access the MyCloud locally, and modify the settings for you.
If he has something like Gotomypc or some other remote access method to control a remote workstation that is local to the mycoud, he could abuse it to do the setup.
