Default password out-of-the-box for a new WD MyCloud NAS?

Just got a new WD MyCloud NAS. Attached it to my LAN and created a cloud account out in the cloud. Now I want to change the local IP address.

  1. But what is the default admin password?

When I type: http://192.168.2.151, I get a WD MyCloud logon screen with a cityscape background image, and “admin” is already filled in there as the username. I have tried using “admin” as the password, no joy. I have left the password field blank, no joy. I have left both fields blank, no joy.

  1. If I change the IP address locally, does a corresponding change have to be made somewhere in the cloud account?

Thanks

P.S. Interesting factoid: I numbered the second question “2.” but the editor changes it to “1.” when I save the question. Sometimes programmers mistake cleverness for intelligence.

There should be no password for the default admin user. BUT if you have created a user for yourself, it is likely to have made that user into the administrator,. Try entering your user name (first name) and password.

If that doesn’t work, do a 40-second reset, which clears all users, and reverts to default ‘admin’ with no password.

You may wish to download and read the user manual.

Also one may want to perform a 4 second reset or a 40 second system restore which should clear the Administrator password.

Turns out the “admin” user gets supplanted by the name of the cloud account I created, and the password is blank.

Hello guys, i have a perfect solution on this issue. Send me an email then i will teach you how to solve it.

I’ll be glad to help you guys.

Hi JamesJohn how I can send you an email?

I found that welc0me works for making an ssh connection to user root.( that’s a zero in welc0me)
ssh 192.168.1.120 -l root
of course, substitute the IP address of your drive.
