Was backing up on schedule, but after an extended power outage (vacation) the EX2 is no longer recognized as a target device and the backup and retrieve tabs are grayed out. Installed software on a new computer and it recognized the drive immediately and has been doing scheduled backups, but the original computer does not show the target. Drive is working fine. Think it must be a software glitch.
Hello and welcome to the WD community.
Try to uninstall the software from this computer and then re install it again to see if this helps you out.
Have uninstalled and reinstalled both the WD Smartware and My Cloud software and the problem persists. Any other suggestions?

Why don’t we see what the OP has to say first?
Not sure what you mean by OP. Still only shows Dropbox as a backup target and backup and retrieve tabs are grayed out. Other computers on network with same software identify device and back-up fine.
nnikirk - OP is a widely used acronym for Original Poster, who in this case is you. I was replying to GoLight, pointing out that we should wait for an answer from you, since GoLight jumped in giving their answer, when someone else (you) originally reported the problem.
Apparantly it has to do with the firewall in Windows 8.1. I have tried to allow the app to pass through the firewall in Windows, but this doesn’t work. Only works when firewall is disabled. I don’t want to turn the firewall off to have continuous backup. Any suggestions on how to get SmartWare to work through the firewall? WD tech support not answering…
