Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (WDMYCLOUD) is not responding

MyCloud shows up under network, but I can only access the files via the MyCloud App. I cannot click on the WDMYCLOUD and access the files through file explorer, nor am I able to map the WDMYCLOUD network drive.

This is the error I get when I try to click on WDMYCLOUD or try to map the drive.

After I click on diagnose, I get this

Any help on this?

You have to map a Share, not the entire drive.

So you would enter \\WDMYCLOUD\Public for the Public share.

Don’t forget that each Sahre has individual User access rights.

Also, make sure you connect EVERY Share (including Public) with the same MyCloud credentials (Windows can’t use mixed credentials for a network drive).

You can map the entire drive.

Unfortunately even if what you said is the case, it still doesn’t solve the issue. The trouble is WDMYCLOUD won’t allow windows file explorer to ā€œexploreā€ it.

What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far? Have you tried a reboot of your computer? How about a reboot of your router? What shows up if you right click on WDMYCLOUD?

Do you know what generation of My Cloud you have, 1st or 2nd generation. Below are links to both User Manuals.

1st Generation: http://products.wdc.com/library/UM/ENG/4779-705103.pdf

2nd Generation: https://www.wdc.com/content/dam/wdc/website/downloadable_assets/eng/user_manual/4779-705147.pdf

No you can’t. I’ve just tried to map the entire drive, and got the same error message you did.

See what happens if you hit ā€˜browse’; it will show you devices you can map to, but it will not allow you to select the entire drive. You have to select a share within the drive. The dialogue box also gives you a hint: "Example: \\server\share"

I will add this, when I open File Explorer, under Network I can click on the drop down menu icon next to WDMYCLOUD and see all my shares or click on WDMYCLOUD and it opens showing all my shares. From a share I can right click and choose Map network drive. See example image below. I have Windows 10 with all updates. Click on, tap or activate image to enlarge it.

Please post screen shot of the entire My Cloud drive mapped (as a single mapped drive) and not each Share on the My Cloud individually mapped.

Generally (at least on Windows 10) one can only map a single Share on the My Cloud not the entire My Cloud as a single mapped instance.

That’s been a consistent feature from XP, through 7, 8 and now in 10. Barring the look and feel, the network drive mapping dialogues have remained very similar. I did the test this morning on a Win7 Pro machine, and the resulting error message text was identical, with only the dialogue format being different.

Yes it has. Only used Windows 10 as an example because that’s all I could quickly test on to refresh my memory.

cpt_paranoia yes. you can. it was done on my network; on my pc, prior to my most recent move.

i moved. everything was reassigned new ip addresses, and now as cat0w has showed, on the side bar under network, my WDMYCLOUD shows up exactly the same, except when i click on it, it gives me the error.

i cannot use file explorer to utilize my WDMYCLOUD in any form or fashion currently. that’s the problem I’m having. I honestly don’t care about mapping any part of the drive, i just want to be able to use it in file explorer rather than the WD provided application.

Got it figured. Router issues.

If you are not actually mapping the drive, using windows ā€˜Map Network Drive’, but are instead accessing via File Explorer, as per cat0w’s screenshot, then, yes, your MyCloud will appear under ā€˜Network’, and you can open it, and access the shares it contains. But that isn’t mapping the drive…

If you know of a way to use ā€˜Map Network Drive’, and get it to apply to the entire drive, we would all like to know, because that would save us having to have a whole bunch of drive letters assigned to individual shares.

Drive mapping is useful, because it allows any program to treat the MyCloud like any other internal HDD or USB HDD. Support for UNC addressing doesn’t appear to be universal, whereas support for Windows drive letters does.

If all you want to do is move files to and from the MyCloud using File Explorer, and never access the MyCloud with any other program, then you don’t need to map any drives. But that’s a very limited use of the MyCloud.
