I thought I’d just plug this in and run with it… no, I’m Frazzled!!!
I’ve got myCloud working across WiFi, I can see files through an iPad and a windows pc.
Now I need to do a mass file copy. Approx 100gb. For this I need to go through a usb cable.
Windows can see the iCloud drive. I know the drives name (I can ping it). But I’m getting ‘not found’ when I try to pull up the dashboard through the browser.
I’ve followed the advice and done the soft reset. The dashboard still doesn’t appear and I still get the ‘not found’ errors. The windows pc can’t see anything through the usb cable, I’m assuming that the USB port isn’t activated by mycloud.
Thanks for your reply. I was using windows 8 to get to the cloud, via Firefox. Since then I’ve tried using an iPad. This gave the same result as windows.
It’s also weird that the device name wasn’t wdmycloud, it was mycloud_rfeyvh?
Anyhow, I thought I’d try a decent reset and reformat the disc. But I’ve ended up doing a full reset so it’s now a few hours in… with some to go I guess. Oops!
Thanks for the link, when I can make sure I’ve got the thing working properly, I’ll get an Ethernet cable and copy through the wireless router
You cannot connect a My Cloud drive to the computer using the USB cable/port. The USB port on the My Cloud is for attaching external USB hard drives to the My Cloud for either increasing the available storage space available to the My Cloud, for backing the My Cloud to the USB drive, or in your case for moving large amounts of files from a computer to the My Cloud when using WiFi or Gigabit Ethernet would take hours/days.
Thanks for your reply. I think the solution to the large file copy problem is on the link given in a previous reply (page 95 of the user manual).
This says I need to connect my pc to the WiFi router by Ethernet cable. The router is, of course, connected to mycloud by cable. I then copy from the pc via the Ethernet cable, through the router, to mycloud. This way I do have the added burden of the router but avoid copying over WiFi.
I think this should cut down the copy time significantly?
