Windows 10 updates broke sharing? SOLUTION INSIDE

Hi,

Everything came from this thread:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1add7d03-2bc0-4d1e-9248-fef090d9ba0e/anyone-else-notice-the-network-issues-with-windows-10-creators-edition?forum=win10itpronetworking

Steps:

  1. Win+R (Run), type “optionalfeatures” and hit enter to bring up “Turn Windows features on or off”.
Scroll down to and expand “SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support” and check “SMB 1.0/CIFS Server” (Client was already checked for me) and hit OK.
  2. Launch Powershell as administrator. (right click > run as admin)
  3. Type “Set-SmbServerConfiguration -EnableSMB1Protocol $true” and hit enter.
  4. Type “Y” to confirm
  5. Reboot

I did this but it didn’t work. Then I found that for whatever reason, during the 1709 upgrade, MS reset my workgroup name back to “workgroup”, which is not something you would notice unless you dug back through everything. It didn’t even do that when I upgraded from 7 to 10. Well in any case, I changed the workgroup name back to match the WDTV and it saw the computer on the network. It’s been working for 24 hours so far…I hope it keeps working.
