Will the Gen 1 HD Media Player ever be able to play DTS audio with a bin upgrade?

I recently purchased a Gen 1 HD Media Player about 4 months ago not knowing it doesn’t play DTS audio. I was a bit cheesed off when I found out the Gen 2 does play DTS.

I read the DTS situation in the FAQ of this forum but my question is: will the Gen 1 ever be able to play DTS audio with a bin upgrade or something like that? I hate to go but another one.

Thanks

The Gen1 will output DTS 5.1 to a receiver, but it can not downmix the DTS to a stereo signal.

So, if you have a receiver, you can still have DTS.

If you don’t have a receiver, you can simply include the AC3 tracks when ripping your DVDs, or you can use something like Popcorn MKV Audio Converter to convert the DTS track to AC3.

WD’s official line is that the hardware in the Gen1 is not capable of DTS downmixing, so even if the device wasn’t deemed EOL, there wouldn’t be any kind of update to add DTS downmixing to it.

Thanks for the reply, RoofingGuy. I think I’ll sell it and buy a Gen 2.

Sorry I can’t give you a happier answer.
