Will replacing PCB save my external disk?

Hi,

I have WD10TMVW-11ZSMS1 model 1 TB WD passport.
It has been used on same same PC and same position for a year.
I havent moved it or dropped it or done any kind of physical damage on it.
It is protected with UPS and external surge protection.
It has been attached to a powered usb hub.

Suddenly it stopped working and my PC (Win 10 x64) keeps trying to install “SATA Drivers” “Sata Bridge Drivers” randomly while the drive is connected.

I have 2 more WD passport devices and they are working just fine.
So I removed other USB drives and tried other USB 3.0 cables on it but it didnt work.

I gently removed the PCB Board and identified the part numbers.
Luckily I have found the PCB (WD10TMVW-11ZSMS1, 771737-B00 01P)

My question is: if the PCB is the problem, can it work with another identical PCB board ?

As I said, when I connect the drive, PC (win 10 x64) tries to install “Sata Drivers/ Bridge Drivers” but the harddrive doesn’t spin or making TIC TAC sounds

Thanks for your interest.

Replacing the PCB board may not work unless it’s the exact same PCB including production batch and firmware. The process is not recommended. If data access is a concern then I’d recommending contacting a professional data recovery service company.
