I am using the WDTV live UI > Videos to navigate to my network share folders on my Synology NAS.
So I’m not using the library, only browsing through the folders and files.
Yesterday I have confirmed two .mp4/x264/AAC files weren’t playing.
Meaning that the player loads, the loading arrow spins for 20sec and then the player closes and I’m back to the file explorer.
I had planned on reverting to 2.01.86 from 2.02.32 after reading that it would solve the issue.
But an hour ago when I boot my WDTV live I saw that there was a new firmware, and confirmed on this forum that it had just been released.
I installed it via the UI on the WDTV Live.
I just have tested the same two files that weren’t playing yesterday, and now they play.
I haven’t done further testing but what is described above is my experience, and so far the mp4 playing problem is resolved for me.
I’ll update this post if I run into trouble with this firmware.
Thanks everyone on this forum for the conversations/support that helped me identify my problem, and thanks WD for still supporting this box.
I guess the big question I have (and probably many others) is this:
If I rolled back all my four WDTVs from the (problematical) 2.02.32 to the (working) 2.01.86 - and turned off firmware updates, when will it be safe to try this new 2.03.20 ?
I don’t think DST works. I have to manually turn it on and off as DST changes. Some people in the forum argue that’s how it’s suppose to work, but I’ve never encountered a device before where you had to do that (and their arguments for why are ridiculous). With other devices, it always worked automatically once to set your time zone in the settings and enable DST.
Whenever you have time to check that the new firmware does what you need it to do this is the first update in 2 years so you have probably got a good 2 years to try it before the next one comes along, if ever…
for me so far so good and as I said above the UI seems faster and more responsive.
I agree with you, same problem here (in all FW versions), DST should adjust automatically like windows and other OS do.
Worst for me is that we can not input the time, only way to set the clock is connect it to a time server.
Anyone know if this fixes the slowdown issue that had plagued some (but not all) people using SMB over WiFi? I keep one of the units back-leveled because of this and would really like to upgrade it.
Yes, I have rolled forward from 2.01.86 to the new 2.03.20 on two of my WDTVLive SMP’s. It seems safe to use.
I was one of the folks contacted by WD tech support, and was asked to send them logs from the box. At the time, it was getting hard just to keep the box stable long enough to collect the logs. I was having severe problems with videos hanging, menus hanging, video’s incorrectly declared as in an unsupported format, being unable to power-up the box after I turned it off for awhile, etc, etc.
Now it’s working fine. The difference is like night-and-day. Thanks WD!
Regarding the time zone issue. Although it definitely could be programmed to be smarter than it is, I believe that the issue is that the DST start/end dates changed, and not every state (in the US) adopted the new dates. Thus, I guess it was deemed easier to just let the user decide when to enable/disable DST.
Many thanks for your message: good to find someone in exactly the same position as I was.
I feel safer now to gradually update my previously-rolled-back WDTVLive SMPs to the new firmware. Although The_Breeze shows it’s not necessarily over yet…
Mp4 bug is still there. Talk about annoying. As soon as i did a refresh by moving some movies around, 1/2 of them disappeared. The same old issue which they still havent fixed. Unbelievable.
I think that there is still present the low memory bug. Today I had to reset the device because any file was playable… On the screen there was only an orange loading circle…
I will give it a new chance but if it’s still failing I will downgrade, again, to 2.01.86 version.
