WDTV Live Playability

I converted a movie I owned into mkv and moved it to a hard disk. When I played the movie,  WD freezes. I tried a different hard disk and the movie plays normally.

I think the software has been corrupted. Am I correct? I have installed the beta version 1.03 and cannot find the original file on the WD website.

:mansad:

What version of mkvmerge was used to make the .mkv file?

RG is being (properly) cautious, but I’ll go out on a limb and say what he’s implying – you played a file made with MKVMerge greater than 4.0 and it had header compression on.  Just remux the file with MKVMerge 4.0 (or earlier) and all will be right with the world (after you reset the Live, of course).

The problem now has got more complicated. There are movies which i saw a week ago and now not a single movie in my hard disk  plays any longer. The player just freezes. Yesterday I spent the whole day trying fixing the WD player but to no avail. It seems the WD Media Player does not work any longer with new encodings.

Help.

It is irrelevant what MKV merge I used because you have not explained why a movie works on a particular hard disk and on another hard disk it won’t play.

There has been a development. An MKV file works fine on a SD Card attached to the WD Live Player on 1.03 firmware but mkv files played from my hard disk does not. How come?

You are making too many points in one go and the problem is becoming too complicated.

Post the mediainfoof one of your files that does not work, preferably the one that started all this off.

You may have a number of  problems. The first does point to you using a version of MKVmerge with header compression. So are you using a version higher than 4.0.

NEW DEVELOPMENT

My hard disk had some bad sectors so that is why all files in my hard disk for not playing.

I have bought a new Hard Disk and WD TV Live cannot find media on this new hard disk which is full of mkv files. I think that my media player is faulty.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Does it detect the drive at all?   What kind did you buy?

You are all over the place on this issue – again, as Rich says, post the MediaInfo on ONE of the files that won’t play (it’s very likely it’s a bad file).

The old Hard disk funny enough was Western Digital. The new HDD is SAMSUNG. The media player seems to play the mkvs quite ok on the new SAMSUNG but having problem to play m2ts files now. I hear the hard disk spinning and spinning and the picture freezes then it plays a bit then freezes.

When I play media files through a SD Card, the media player works fine.

I have another HDD a Seagate (640Gb) and also had difficulty to play the mkv files as well.

I am a bit perplexed.

Just out of interest are you reading any of our replies or are you just having fun posting?

I beg your pardon rickUK. I do read your replies and I just answered you after you have told me whether the media player is recognizing the hard disk and contents. And by the way, some of the replies I cannot understand them.

You know what I think Mr. rickUK that spending so much money on WD HD Live was a waste of money. I think the media player is garbage but maybe you can change my mind. Don’t be so offensive next time.

Selignav, your posts are hard to follow because you’re bouncing all over the place and aren’t providing the requested information.  You were asked a number of times to post a MEDIAINFO so we can learn about the file you’re trying to play, and that’s been ignored.

For example, in one post you say that the NEW HD doesn’t work AT ALL, then in the very next post, you say the new HD works for EVERYTHING except M2TS files.

So, hopefully you’ll pardon our confusion; we’re not getting what we need to help you.

If you don’t understand the replies then just say so. We are just users of this unit like you. Its not our job.

If you think its garbage then take it it back or don’t use it. If you want help then please supply the information asked for.
