I have a WD5000AAKX that I would like to use as an external drive. The WD5000AAKX is obviously an internal drive and I need to know how to hook up the power connector. I have a USB to IDE adaptor but there is no way to attach a power cord to the WD drive. I need a means to get 12 v power to the drive.
Does anyone have any ideas how to accomplish this? I can send a photo of the connector if desired.
There is a lot of options. Check this out on Amazon.
Thank you very much for your response. I am aware of many of these products on Amazon but they don’t quite meet my needs. The drive I am trying to connect to has a separate power connector and I can’t seem to find a cable that can be connected to the drive and to a power source. I will try to attach some photos.
I would appreciate any advice you may have.
It’s a SATA drive. Look again. THIS one has all the cables you should need.
Just buy a powered 3.5" USB SATA Enclosure.
Insert HDD into Enclosure … plug in Power, and then the USB Cable to a PC and Switch On.

Is that small 8 pin a power connection? To the let of the Sata connection. I have a hard drive that the sata power connector got damaged. Can I use that small 8 pin connector instead? Ive never seen a cable that fits that connector.
No, that’s a jumper block for selecting various configuration settings. It also provides access to the drive’s UART port.
