Just installed My Passport Ultra on Win 7 PC. Have installed and used another same drive on an 8.1 PC with no problems.
Was able to install WD Drive Utilities and it works.
Updated WD drivers, tried reinstalling Backup several times, and the drive shows up in “Computer” but when I go to Win Apps and start the “first backup” process, when it gets
to “Select your backup device” it says it cannot find the target device4 (i.e. the Passport drive).

Are you able to test the drive copying some files to it?
Also, are you able to test the drive on a different computer using the same Win app?
This will help you to identify where the issue is coming from.
WD sent me WD Smart Ware which seems to work,altho there’s maybe 1/4th of my files of various types itwouldn’t copy.
Then tried just copying folders over manually and it takes them all fine,even the ones it wouldn’t copy in the auto backup mode.
I got my girlfriend one of those and it works fine on her 8.1.
At least I’m getting my stuff backed up, altho not as convenientas it’s supposed to be. After I get the initial load copied, I wouldhope it would then work like it’s supposed to and do auto updateson new or changed files.
