WD Smartware shows data on device after full system reset

I’m a new user. After playing with My Cloud 3 TB I decided to reset it and start again clean. Eventually I did a full factory restore, uninstalled all software, deleted the Western Digital folder from ProgData and started again. When I use the Dashboard it seems to be correct. But right after the system restore SmartWare showed 2.7 Tbytes total with 2.2 Tbytes free. Any suggestions?

Hi, welcome to the community.

If you performed the a full factory restore and the smartware still shows the information that you had on the drive, you might want to delete C:\Users\youruser\AppData\Local\Western_Digital_Technolog and C:\Users\youruser\AppData\Local\Western Digital that way all the settings should be removed from the smartware installed on your computer.

Thank you, thank you, thank you and… oh yes, THANK YOU. That did the trick. My Cloud shows 2.7 TB total and 2.6 TB available. Actually, there’s only 50 gb difference between the two.

No Problem, remember to mark the post as a solution if it helped so another user that might be having the same issue notice that it was resolved.

Done. Thanks again.

Actually now that I look it’s definitely better than it was. It used to be 2.7 TB total and 2.2 TB available. After deleting the folders the available space is now 2.6 TB (up from 2.2). However the total space stayed at 2.7 TB. The Dashboard indicates 2.9 TB free so I’d say there’s something else going on.

It seems strange to me that deleting files on your C drive on the PC. Would free up space on your My Cloud.

RAC. Iluna’s comment to delete a couple of directories I believe is clearing out information used bySmartWare. It’s sounding as though the files do not update to show the drive’s cleared after being reset so I need to delete those folders so the files get regenerated.

You mean that smartware is storing information on the PC not the My Cloud?

RAC

Yes. Not the backups - that’s on My Cloud. But the config files are on the c:\ drive.

■■■■!

I performed a factory reset, uninstalled ALL WD software, deleted Western Digital folders in ProgData (I think) and performed a system restore to a date prior to installing My Cloud. The device still reads 2.7 TB total space!!!

Again you deleted files on your PC and free space increased on the My Cloud?
