My Macbook Air 2011 can’t recognize my 6-month old WD Passport external hard drive. A few days ago I had the same problem. Finder can’t see it but Disk Utility can. After searching the web I found that I can fix it with the terminal command diskutil recover /dev/nameofdisk. And it did. My HD got fixed and was running fine until yesterday. After I plugged it in, I felt it spinning and vibrating and the LED lights was blinking. After a few seconds, the LED light just stayed on, but the drive is still spinning. Mac won’t recognize it. Disk Utility couldn’t find it. Help! I need to recover all my files from there. What should I do?
Are you able to test the drive on a different Mac? Also with a different USB cable?
As a recommendation, contact WD Support directly.
