WD Passport (500Go) not recognized on MAC

Hi there,

I have been using a WD Passport 500Go for many years but my MacBook Air is no longer recognizing it.

  • It appears in Applications > Disk Utility (greyed out) but not on Desktop

  • I have tried ‘Run First Aid’ and ‘Mount’ but it hasnt made any difference. When I try to eject it, it doesnt work either

  • The External Hard drive is not recognized on my MacBook Pro or another PC

  • The light is clicking and stays on and we hear normal sound of the hard drive

  • The USB cord is working

  • I have tried to shut down the computer but no luck after

  • I have MacOS Sierra version 10.12.6

Would you have any idea?
Many thanks
Agnes

Your WD is not mounting on the Mac due to a possible disk corruption or partition map corruption. There are a couple of ways to fix:

  1. Try to Backup the WD using Disk Utility << Image option. If successfully done, erase the WD with MacOS Journaled.

  2. If the backup isn’t happening via Disk Utility then the only option is to recover files from the unmounted drive using a data recovery tool. Once done you can erase the drive or replace with new WD.

Many thanks for the response.

Would you have a data recovery tool to recommend?
It doesnt seem to be working using the Image Option.

Thank you,

You can try

  • Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery

  • Disk Drill

Many thanks again for your help, will try
Cheers
