WD Not Found on Network

Just bought and tried to install the WDMyCloud. First installed at a switch behind my desk, connected to the network (router). WD Discovery couldn’t see it. Then directly to the router; WDD couldn’t see it. Read a bunch of things and then called tech support when it didn’t work. They had me plug the thing into my notebook computer directly and, based on my notebook being able to see it, they concluded that it was some firewall in my network (my tech has ruled that out). Tried manual settings (static vs. DHCP), that didn’t work. Half the time the MyCloud wasn’t recognized when connected directly to my notebook; it would drift in and out of being able to see the device. Called back yesterday (tech support) and after 10 mins or so, the line was hung up. No return call. I called back in and sat on hold (an hour) until I realized that it was 40 mins after closing time for tech support.

Anyone have any idea what is going on, or do I just have a bad copy of the MyCloud device and should return it? Thanks.

In most cases both need to see a DHCP server to decide what IP to use.

APIPA does this.

How were you able to set a static IP if you weren’t able to connect to the NAS?

Can you describe how your network is constructed a little more?   What kind of router, etc.

When the Cloud is connected to your router, what is the LED color sequence during bootup?
