I own WD MyCloud with single disk 3 TB. After upgrade of firmware to 5.30.103 the shares aren’t accessible from local network. From mycloud.com everything is accessible. Whenever I try to connect from local network from Windows 11 PC I see WDMYCLOUD in Windows Explorer. However I always see an error message : Windows cannot access \WDMYCLOUD<sharename>.
From MacOS I see similar message: This file server will not allow any additional users to log on.
How can I restore the option to connect and to map a network share from WD Mycloud as working through Myclooud.com is very cumbersome?
I’m unable to tell you what the problem is, but it may be some small consolation to know that I have had exactly the same experience with my 6TB+6TB Ultra running as RAID1 which updated to 5.30.103 at 3am UK time this morning… I did not have access via MYCLOUD configured so, for the time being, I am without my data. However, your experience would seem to indicate that my data is probably intact. If the worse comes to the worst I will see what I can retrieve from the drives by plugging them into a USB interface. Curiously, I CAN still see the Web interface for the drive at the expected IP address. It says everything is hunky dory. I’m kinda hoping there will be a “whoops” software update soon but, of course, that will only happen if lots of people are having this problem. Personally, I don’t have the time to go through the multiple layers of “support” to diagnose right now.
UPDATE: I have downgraded to 5.29.102 and I am able to access my drives again. Don’t forget to turn off auto-update!
I failed to show this in my first reply. Using File Explorer and entering the highlighted info below should show your shares. If it does then click on which one you want to open.
WD are aware that they have released firmware that hasn’t been properly tested again and their “team are working on a fix” which we will get an email in a few days/weeks/years! Pity the “team” didn’t check the bloody firmware before sending it out. Muppets!
Look, firmware update mistakes (like mistakes in most things) are inevitable. The challenge is to rapidly fix, and correct the mistakes. Let’s see how long this takes. If an update is out by end of the week. . .I think that is ok.
I know in the old days - - - > with OS/3 - - > there would always be issues with the “master browser” aspects of the networking protocol, such that it was always “hit or miss” on seeing the drives in the network folder. They never fixed this until OS/5 was released. (one of the two or three things I really liked about OS/5. Pity.)
I’m using two laptops - with Windows 11 and with MacOS. On both network shares disappeared with My Cloud version 5.30.103. As soon as I downgraded to 5.29.102 the issue was solved on both computers.
Have you opened a Support Case?
If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:
I finally have mine working tonight. I am on my Dell Laptop and I opened my WDMYCLOUD and changed my Horace share to Public, then went to my User name and changed the Password. Below is an image showing my network device and the shares under it.
just updated here to 5.30.103 with a Mycloud EX2 Ultra dual drives… the private folders disappeared. I am configuring to access from mycloud now and it is indexing the drives slowly. Shows data is still there. Come on bloody WD… you roll this firmware upgrade out without testing or what!! took a night of my life feeling the shitz…seemingly losing all the data!
I had the same issue. I had three rounds with WD support. First, they checked if the IP addresses were ok and dynamic. My EX2 had all three lights solid blue on the front, but still could not be picked up. The result was that the drive was encrypted and if you have an encrypted drive, the update will cause your files to no appear. After some monkeying around, the files came back after doing a 40 second reset. The 4 second reset did not work. I lastly turned off my auto updates so this does not happen in the future. Hope this helps others.
I have the same problems and will take out the drives and put them in a caddy to try to access files. Before I do, some have mentioned downgrading the software, how do I downgrade? I have access to the dashboard but it is not responding when I try to look at the firmware. This problem has been ongoing for nearly two weeks now, is anyone working on a solution? Or has Elon Musk fired everyone at WD?
