Issue with WD My Passport 2TB: Not Recognized and Shows as RAW
Hello,
I need assistance with my WD My Passport 2TB, which is approximately 5 years old and has been used less than once a month. Recently, I encountered a problem with the drive when attempting to copy files.
Here’s the situation:
I connected the drive to my PC (via USB 3.0) and tried to copy a video file to another device (via USB 2.0). After about 10 minutes, the copy process slowed down significantly. While copying, I opened one of the video files on the drive to check its content, but the video played very slowly and eventually stopped. Shortly after, the copy process also stopped.
I tried to safely eject the drive through Windows, but before disconnecting, the HDD’s LED was still blinking. A pop-up appeared, but I didn’t catch the exact message. Once I reconnected the drive, the LED blinked again, but Windows no longer recognized the drive. After waiting about 5 minutes, the system froze for a while, and then prompted me to format the drive.
What I’ve tried:
- Changed USB ports — same issue.
- Tried a different PC — same result.
- Used both Windows 11 and Windows 10 — issue persists.
- Currently running
chkdsk X: /f /r(still in progress). - In Disk Management, the drive is shown as RAW and cannot be opened. Windows prompts to format it.
Before I proceed with formatting the drive, I wanted to reach out for assistance. Does anyone know what might be causing this issue, or any possible ways to recover the data from the drive?
Thank you for your support!
