Hi,
I have a brand new WD My Passport Wireless.
I have connected the drive to my TV on a couple of occasions to watch videos with no problems. Yesterday I disconnected the drive from my TV and connected it via USB to my laptop and it asked me to format the drive. Under Disk Management the drive now appears as RAW.
I reformat the drive, updated the firmware and transferred videos back onto the drive.
Now when the drive is connected via USB to the TV, it is showing as connected but the video folder is showing as empty.
I have just tried to connect the drive via USB to my laptop and it has again converted to RAW.
Each time I eject the drive correctly.
Could you please offer some assistance?
Thank you.
A little bit of googling reveals you may have a damaged HDD.
Read this. It may be repairable but does state you should not reformat (I think that refers to recovering drives data which you don’t need to do).

If in warranty I would also contact WD Support and lodge a fault ticket.
Thank you.
I did read that link prior to posting.
When I ran the “gsmartcontrol” program, my HDD states “SMART Status: Unsupported” ![]()
Possibly not working due to the MPWP being interfaced via a Linux OS, so you’re not accessing the HDD ‘directly’ (just guessing here). These units are not standard hdd’s so that may be why the command won’t work.
I would contact WD Support for advice as this appears to be a HDD issue rather than something you have done. They may have a method for fixing or do an rma.
Let us know if you get it resolved.
Perhaps download and try this partition manager first. It is free for personal use.
