My book is recognized by the computer(Win 8 Pro 64 bit) but is not recognized by WD Smartware when it is run. WD Smartware has been upgraded to version 2.xx but I was not able to update the firmware in the drive because it is not recognized by WD software.

As a recommendation, you can try disconnecting the drive and restart your computer. Once the computer is up and running connect the drive again and load the software.

Hi, The WD software (Ver 2.01) still does not recognize My Book, even though the file explore sees the drive and its data. However it looks as if the VCD has disapeard.
