Although kitfix full overwrite has completed and application ended the WD Red device (in an external USB dock) is still being accessed. Also KitfoxService and KitfoxbackgroundApp.exe processes are shown as still running in Task manager which leads me to think that the process has not completed (though the application thinks it has). Any thoughts?

This is usually due to the background service not terminating properly and does not mean the overwrite failed. After reboot, if the disk shows as unallocated and there is no activity, the overwrite completed successfully and the issue was just the service still running.
