WD Black Not Detected in Kitfox

I have a Desktop HDD: WD Black (FZEX) bought in 2015. The warranty is over.
Recently, whenever I copy to or from that HDD, it becomes very slow. Like half an hour to copy a 1GB file.

I did chkdsk /f and there are some bad sectors, not a lot. Windows 11 still can detect the HDD and I can still access it but I suspect it is dying soon. Even if chkdsk marked the bad sectors, repaired the usn journal, it is still slow.

I installed kitfox to run diagnostics tools from WD. But kitfox is not able to detect this HDD.

This HDD only contains videos and no systems or program files. I am just trying to repair it, if possible. Copy out the 2.5 TB of files and then just replace it. I ran out of HDD slots in my chassis so I have to copy the files to another WD HDD before I can swap it. The problem is it takes very long to copy the files. Any suggestions?

Grab Seatools and try wiping the disk clean and see if that restores the disk health. I have used that tool and everyone’s disks and SSD and it can clean everything fine.

I searched tools similar to seatools and found Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostic. Version 1.37. It is able to detect my WB Black. The SMART status is also Pass. But not sure why Kitfox cannot detect? I got 3 WD internal HDD, 2 Samsung SSD, 1 Plextor SSD and 2 WD external HDD. Why Kitfox can detect everything except the WB Black?

I tried Kitfox on several WD devices and it could not recognize everything. That is why I keep using Seatools to check storage SMART status and to clean second hand storage devices. Even USB attached devices are found making USB enclosures more convenient.

The WD Black FZEX from 2015 is failing, with bad sectors causing very slow file transfers. Windows can still see the drive, but copying files normally is extremely slow and unreliable. Since it only contains videos, the priority is to copy out the 2.5 TB of data before the drive fails completely. Using tools like Robocopy, TeraCopy, FastCopy, or ddrescue can help skip bad sectors and recover most files. Connecting the drive directly via SATA, copying in smaller batches, and disabling antivirus scanning can improve speed. Once the data is backed up, the drive should be replaced and not used for critical storage.

Yeah, that drive is on its way out. Best bet is to back up the important files first, even if it’s slow, maybe try copying in smaller chunks or use a recovery tool to speed things up before replacing it.

hello, i have a less than a year old WD_black SN700 2.0tb ssd that also wont be recognised by kitifox, dashboard says my firmwire is up to date. this being said ive been experience it being slow for several months and something is definately wrong with the drivers..
i should add its shows up in BIOS aswell as being my main harddrive atm, i do have another internal drive as back up but i only really use the other drive for back up as its really slow.

this thread makes me think the ssd is already broken but surely it can not be this bad? and it more seems like western digital and sandisk did not continue proper support for this drive.
i am in the process of contactin ASUS, Western Digital and any support connected to this device for trouble shooting..
this was stated the best and fastest ssd that fit my ASUS TUF f15 FX506LHB gaming laptop at the computer store where it was installed by proffesional staff. they said it was a great ssd, specially for gaming and the ssd stats was well over any other ssd´s they had..
if its broken ima be pissed and if its suddenly unsupported ima become really mad at Western Digital.. so for anyone having issues with WD Black ssd´s i suggest contacting support, i will report back here what they tell me and how to fix it (i assume it can be fixed)

i felt i should comment here as i see many are scared their ssd´s is on its way out..
they cant sell a ssd then stop support after a few weeks, something is up with WD black drivers and reading this i do not think all WD black ssd is “on its way out” at the same time like this.
it seem more like driver issues than a faulty/broken ssd imo
feel free to correct me, support open in a few hours for me but i might fall asleep and contact them when i wake up

I use Seatools which recognizes everything while Kitfox is evident rather bug riddled
