I have sent my WD HD to a friend of mine in China. On my IMac here (Late 2011 model running on Yosemite) there is no problem mounting the disk and seeing all the content.
My friend uses El Capitan and is unable to see the disk (also not in Disk Utility). What can be the problem here? The disk and cable are brand new and I only used it once to copy all the files on it. Ive been reading a ton of information about mounting problems with these disks…

Ask your friend to test the drive on a different Mac to see if the unit got damage during the shipment.
well it doesn’t work on any mac, also not visible in dik utility. don’t
know if it got broken during shipment or they messed it up in customs…
